Question Installation help

Hello all,

ok as you will notice, I am new to working on trucks... Hopefully this wont be a stupid question. Should I remove the battery before I remove the computer? What is the easiest way to get to the 10mm bolt that holds the wiring harness connector?

Thanks in advance,

Tom

To access the 10mm bolt, it is easier to take out the battery. It is not necessary if your hands are small enough to get behind the battery. I tried both ways. If you take the time to take it out, all it does is add time to the installation. I found it better to take the extra time, because , like you I am not a mechanic either.

GOOD LUCK , HAPPY MOTORING!!!

Well I don't have small hands And I'm not a mechanic. However I managed To remove the computer without removing the battery. I just used a Socket wrench with a long handle.

I'll be different. Go ahead and remove the batter. It is good practice to clean the battery terminals at least once a year and you can clean the terminals, cables and battery with the battery out of the vehicle.

Thumbs up

Thanks everyone for all your help...
I do have the off road pkg and I did remove the battery and hooked it up in about 45 minutes with the help of my dad

I noticed a improvement right away. It is the first time i have smoked my tires (without turning). The shifts are much better also. Should I expect more power over time or is this something that happens instantly?

Thanks again,

you all are great!

Dear Tom,

Like the other responses you've gotten, it will depend on what equipment your truck has, and the size of your hands and what tools you have available. Most of the F150 owner's can get back there with an open end wrench, or a smaller drive rachet, or something long-handled. If you have the off road package, and/or the self-leveling suspension, then you may have one or two solonoids that are in the way, and in that case you will need to remove the battery.

Otherwise, you should be able to reach it. Just remember that you do not want to remove the 10mm bolt, just loosen it enough to release the wiring harness from the front of the computer.

Removing the battery alwasy makes it easier to reach that bolt, but it's not *required* in most cases.

Good luck,

Dear Tom,

You get most of what the Superchip does right away. If you spend more time at WOT, you can pick up another couple of percent of peak power, due to re-learn & adaptive strategy. Some members have reported more power as they accumulate more miles, and that's not unusual. It's also not a LOT of additional power, but some.

I advise people to drive their vehicle for 20 miles of varied driving, including some WOT runs to help speed the re-learn process. After that, just drive it like you normally would, and let the Superchip work it's magic.

Enjoy,
