Smile Hey ford fan

As a new member here, try not to take the fact you have yet to get a reponse as the reason (did that type out right? hard day today)
No one has responded because the person who can really help you is Mike Troyer with Troyer Performance. If he does not respond, it's because he is very very busy dealing with all of us calling and e-mailing him 24/7 .
*BUT*
Don't let that stop you (it never stops us!)
Give it till Monday then give him a call for more info:

Don't be shy and don't be cheap on a phone call as it is the *best* couple of bucks you'll ever spend on your truck.
I am sure he can help you......most of us have a 97 and newer and nobody wants to speak up on anything older than that for fear the MAN speaks

Hi Fordfan25,

The 5.0 truck engines generally pick up about 20 HP from our tuning. And *if* the automatic transmission in your 1992 truck is computer controlled, then yes, we can alter the shift characteristics (shift points, firmness levels, etc.).

I say "if" simply because your model year is right at the very beginning of the introduction of computer-controlled automatic transmissions, which Ford took a few model years to get them in all their vehicles - starting off with vehicles like some of the Lincolns, then other Ford & Mercury cars and then in the trucks, too. We can tell you that for sure when you call us, we'll tell you how to find your truck's computer code and with then that info, we can let you know if the transmission's operation is controlled by the PCM or not.

To learn more about what chips do, etc., the best thing to do is to just spend some time using the search feature here (accessed via it's icon in the upper right area of this page) to retrieve & read any of the thousands of posts here about this - you'll love the convenience of the search feature, as it's your keep to instantly unlocking all of the tons of great information here, without having to wait for someone to see your question and respond to it when they have time, etc. - just FYI.

You can also take a look over on our web site at: ww.TroyerPerformance.com - click on "Shop" once the home page loads, and then go into the Superchips Custom Tuning section - you'll want to read up on our Part#'s 1100, 1300 & 5500 - those are the 3 different Superchips products that will work on your truck, and I would recommend the Part# 5500, as in that one we can do much more in-depth custom tuning. In fact, there is another 5.0 F-150 owner talking about our custom tuning here right now - you can easily sot that thread among the list, it was posted by "watsonr," I think is his screen name - in it he talks about the Part# 9100, which is our custom version of Micro Tuner for the OBD-II 1996 & newer trucks, but we do the same thing in the type of device your model year (and all other pre-1996 models) needs to use, which is a traditional "chip" with the performance tuning loaded inside.

And of course, always feel free to give us a call to go over this in proper detail - our number is listed just below.
