2004 4.6

I have a 2004 F-150 with a 4.6 liter. Can other aftermarket parts from previous years work on this engine, such as intakes and pulleys and headers, or are there differnces between last year and this year?

The 4.6 remains the same, the 5.4 went from 2 to 3 valves.

Red,

This isn't the instant answer line, it's a message board for people to come relax & hang out in their spare time - in other words, it's not like anyone here gets paid to answer questions. They get answered if & when someone knows & has the time - which is usually us, when I can spare a few minutes - which means you will sometimes have to wait a day or two for your answer here - just FYI for future reference.

The 4.6 engine itself has not changed in a number of aspects (not all), but numerous other aspects *have* - so generally speaking, no you cannot use most parts from previous years of F-150's with 4.6's - there are few exceptions among the typical bolt-on performance parts. Even though it's a 4.6, it's still a 2004 model, and *therein* is the issue. For example, the 2004 has a completely different PCM, different air intake track (though an Air Force One for the 2003 F-150 can be made to work), different exhaust (and we have been shipping nice exhaust systems for the 2004 F-150 for months), and so many other things that are different with regard to the most common bolt-on performance parts that prevent most performance parts for older F-150's from being used on the 2004's, by and large.

The bottom line is, if you want to know exactly what you can do now and what other parts from older trucks can be used, just give us a call at our phone number listed below & we can go over that with you.

Good luck with your 2004 4.6,

Hi Red,

You're more than welcome, & hope you're enjoying your 2004 - if you've ever owned or even driven any of the previous 1997-2003 models (which are great), the 2004 is a quantum leap forward.

I'm amazed at it's comfortable 80-90 mph highway cruising capability - I've driven ours for hours on end at 85-90 mph, it's already got 12K miles on it (virtually all highway) so it's certainly seeing it's share of action. I have to say it's the first pickup truck that has ever given me hours-on-end, long trip after long trip cruising comfort, especially at higher speeds.

Have fun,
