Thumbs up Troyer Performance

I have just ordered my 1715 from Anita @ Troyer Performance. They have got to be the best online retailer I have ever delt with. She was willing to answer all my questions and actually had the answers I need to help me make my decision. I ahve to say its nice not to be just another #.

Anyone who needs tuners or chips should definetly go to them for help.

THEY ROCK!!!!

I look forward to future dealings with them. hell I am trying to find something else to do to the truck just so I call back and buy something else from them.

Hi Everyone,

That's very kind of you to say - I made sure Anita saw waterkc's post, and she's blushing.

Buckfu is the gentleman who actually designed our web site, always good to see Bart again - and by the way, "1715" is simply the part number for the Micro Tuner specifically for these F-150's - there are many different Micro Tuners for many different FoMoCo, GM & even Mopar vehicles, so they all have to have a different part number.

Thanks to twistedfinn & everyone else for all your kind words, they are greatly appreciated by our staff - without whom we'd be nothing.

(And everyone's check is in the mail for saying nice things about us - just kidding! )

Have fun gang,

please update after the install

I've got a 1997 4.6 that I'm considering for the 1715. Keep us posted on your "new toy"!

Talking here's my update

I got the unit last night (2/25) and I opened the box and read the directions twice.

I then crashed for hte nigt as I get up for work @ 0400hrs. I got up this morn and before I got in to truck to bail to work I had to put the program on. SO I disconected the fuse to the full pump and plugged the unit in.

In about 15 minutes I was done. I have started off with the 87octane map. Fuel here in Ca. is like $2.35 a gallon for the cheap stuff right now.

the 87 octane map has been nice, just enought to know you added a program but not enought to say Damn!

I will keep the map for a few weeks till gas prices come down a bit (I hope) and then I will run the tow/perf program.

Over all I am very happy with the product. I am looking fort other mods, if anyone has some suggetions please let me know.

03 SuperCrew
K&N Air Kit
Magna Flow Cat Back.
Superchips 87 otc reprogram.

Troyer Performance is great and Mike's really helpful... I've ordered almost everything from my truck through him (2 computer chips (w/ custom burn), e-fans, underdrive pulleys, factory tech valve body, Magnaflow cat-back exhaust) and have been more than pleased by their service.

I definately recommend!

And Mike's gotten to talk to me more than he probabaly wants to

I would totally agree with the service given by Mike and Anita at Troyer Performance, they are indeed 2nd to none. To let you guys understand what I mean by top notch service without being known by a number continue reading.

18 Months ago I bought a 01 lightning, before I even got the truck I ordered a chip and filter combination from them. They wrote a unique program for me, because where I live only had 90 octane, Lightnings should use 91 and over.

Unfortunately the truck met in an accident and was totalled. So now, 18 months later, I am in the process of buying a 04L. I recently called Troyer Performance to order some stuff from them and before I could Identify myself to Anita she told me who I was. Imagine, this lady deals with hundreds of customers on a weekly basis and she could remember my voice. Now that is what I call customer service I tip my hat to Anita and Mike Troyer, good people to deal with. They will continue to get my business. As soon as my lightning lands here in the Caribbean I will continue with my order.

Keep up the good work you two

Hi waterkc,

Following up on your post, now that you have the "basic Top 3" bang-for-the-buck mods (tuning, intake & exhaust), next up in terms of the basic order of bang for the buck would be our dual 16" electric fan kit and underdrive pulleys.

Those 2 mods will net you 25+HP at the wheels, as well as getting you a nice improvement in fuel mileage (usually on the order of 1.5-2.5 more mpg) due to the reduction of parasitic losses. A *really* nice aspect of these 2 mods specifically is that you don't have to include them in calculating your fuel delivery system's capacity (injectors & fuel pump), as this frees up power to the rear wheels but the engine doesn't have to burn any more fuel for that added power - just the opposite, a little bit less fuel is burned.

From there, if you still need more performance (or just prefer not to do the e-fans & pulleys, for example) it's on to things like a larger throttle body and a set of headers - and at this point, all of these mods you can still use that same Micro Tuner with.

If after doing all of that you STILL want more performance, that's not a problem - you can upgrade the MAF, and by that time you'll be ready to upgrade the fuel system (injectors & larger fuel pump) - we recommend doing that as a package, as that will require custom engine tuning to compensate the MAF transfer function and for the larger fuel injectors.

From there, it's on to our supercharger kits, for a nice big 100+ HP gains.

Then there's our ported & polished cylinder heads & camshafts (Stage 1, Stage 2, or Stage 3. And of course at that point, it's time for a fully built motor with all forged internals - you can do *either* the ported heads & cams *or* the supercharger and still not have to "build" the motor - but to do BOTH the blower and the ported heads & cams, in addition to everything above, you'd need the engine built to stand up to those *very* high power levels and live a trouble-free & lengthy service life.

You can take the stock short block (and mainly the limitation is the pistons) up to the 450 HP level (at the flywheel) and still live if it's tuned properly - above 450 HP, you need a built lower end if you want it to live a long time.

Now once you start getting to about the 340-350 HP level, it's usually time to do a little bit of suspension work on the rear, to help with the traction problems you'll have - and those are *good* problems to have.

There's also things like a Centerforce dual-friction clutch (or race-built automatic tranny & high-stall lockup torque converter) - they won't actually increase horsepower but they will help you get that power to the ground better.

As you can see, there's literally no end to how far we can take the performance of these trucks.

To get a good idea of the things to do and not have to have a built motor (in other words, still use the stock engine), roughly what order and the approximate costs, etc., spend some time reading on our web site, looking specifically in our Performance Packages section - look thru and read all the details on all of our various Stage packages, all of which are intended to go onto the stock engine (meaning stock pistons, connecting rods & crankshaft, so you don't have to have a fully "built" motor), as we list complete Stage 1 thru Stage 5 performance packages, listing each part and your approximate power gains. Reading thru that, you'll never be at a loss for knowing what to do next.

We also don't stop there, we do have "Stage Ultimate" packages for those who want to get into the 600+ HP level, or even if someone *really* wants to get into the 900-1000+ HP range - you won't see that stuff listed on our web site, as those things are done to order, individually tailored packages based on vehicle usage, etc.

Realistically, most people are looking for additional modifications they can do 1 or 2 at a time to take it easy on their budget, and still not have to build up the engine itself.

If you'd like to go over a plan of action to get to that next level in more detail, feel free to give us a call & we can spend some time going over all of that with you - we can always put together any kind of package, and you can do your modifications in whatever order *you* want to. We can let you know just exactly what additional modifications you can do and still not need to get into true custom engine tuning to compensate for those modifications, since you are using the 1715 Micro Tuner.

Have fun!

Talking Now Thats What I am talking about!

Now that is what I am talking about, Mike goes out of his way to let us know where we can spend our money. I think the next mod I will do will be the fan kit and pully.

Hi waterkc,

Yes, and it's and a lot of fun helping someone else spend *their* hard-earned money! All kidding aside, thanks for the props.

Hi Intel486 (David O. - you're one of the few whose name I actually remember and can match with their screen name online here),

Thanks for your comments - and yes, we have spent a good bit of time on the phone with each other, but then that's necessary when people do multiple modifications, and/or really start pushing these trucks as you've been doing with yours, etc.

Fowl,

Good talking with you again - it's a minor miracle that nobody was badly hurt in that crash that killed your 2001 Lightning, it sounds like quite an impact - and it takes a good bit of damage to "total" a $35K truck these days! Good luck with your next new 2004 Lightning, & glad you're now in a place where you can get 93 octane fuels!

Have fun everyone,

hey twistedfinn, the only people I know of that use the quote "all bleeding stops-eventually" are either EMT's, or work in surgery. I work in surgery and am a volunteer firefighter.

back to the topic at hand, I just ordered my micro tuner today for my V6. Mike and his staff have been wonderful to work with so far over the phone. Since he has a few to get ready before mine, it should arrive just after my wife leaves for vacation.

later all, and thanks Troyer Performance.

I also want to thank everyone on this site for being a great resource! I have been viewing for a while because I wanted *more* from the ole Ford and decided to purchase a stage one kit (w/micro tuner) from Troyer Performance - ordered on Monday and should arrive soon! From what I have been reading, these mods should make a heck of a difference!

Also, thanks Mike T. for expediting my knowledge on the "what could be" obtained from my F150. Your knowledge and the way you reply on this site made me cancel my order with my local dealer and to utilize your services! Of coarse you realize my wife is not too happy with me and it's your fault!

Thanks to all!

Rich

Hi Rich,

Welcome to F-150 Online, we're delighted you decided to register to post & join the rest of us here!

And of course, thanks *very* much for your order with us - that's greatly appreciated, as it helps us to financially support this huge web site we all enjoy.

I hope your wife won't be too PO'd - most of us here have our own "Vice-President of Internal Finance" to deal with, myself included. For some of us, if we weren't married to sensible women, we'd probably have a wicked-fast truck, but may not have a driveway or garage to put it in.

Enjoy your Stage 1 package, and we hope you'll hang out here with us in your spare time!
