possible short mess up chip?
possible short mess up chip?
Well back in the beginning of december i was on my to B&N to get my magazines. When 2 out of the ordinary things were happening that i never experience before. 1 was the tranny not going into OD, but later found it was cause of the extreme cold and it was just letting the engine warm up.
Second was when I was done I went to start my truck and when I had the key i turned it and all of a sudden I hear a faint pop and everything stopped working. No lights, no dummy lights, nothing. I was like wtf? I tried it again and nothing. Sat for a few and tried it again and had a faint glow of the dash but then nothing worked. Called triple A and had them come to maybe tow me or jump me. When the tow truck arrives i tell him what happend, he pulls around to try and jump me. Well he hooks up the cables and as soon as he did that I had all the lights working again. I couldn't believe it. I was like its a brand new battery how can this happen?
Well anyway, ever since then things just dont seem to be normal. I have posted several threads on my bad mpg which all started at the same time. I used to get 13.5 mpg this same time last year with only an af1 intake. Chip was takin out for the winter and i never had an exhaust done. Now i have the intake in, chip and a true dual exhaust using magnaflow dual in/out with x pipe and 2.25" piping.
My question is, is it possible that whatever happend that night could've done something to the chip?

Hi 97,
This site is having server problems that are preventing us from responding in a timely manner.
In short, that could possibly be your problem, but call us so I can go over this with you in some detail, OK?
Good luck & talk to you soon!

Mike im definitely going to call you. Should've done it today when i was off. I wanted to have it sent to be reprogrammed to add the performance program i had talked to your wife about.
Since i've taken it out my mpg have gone up quiet a bit. Im actually surprised by it.

Hi 97,
It could be just about anything - for example, if we can actually positively isolate an mpg change solely to the removal of the chip (which happens about every 12th of never), it may have been zapped by a current surge or a fuse or relay blowing out, or even a loose battery cable, etc., perhaps causing a tad of corruption in one area of the program. This is assuming a proper installation and proper & consistent connection status to the PCM, etc.
It obviously sounds like you definitely had a voltage event of some kind, and that is not any kind of symptom that could be caused by a performance chip or program of any kind -thus whatever actually caused this voltage event is something else altogether.
Unless it's file corruption, I doubt it actually has anything to do with the chip itself, but give us a call when you can & we'll go over this & see what we can determine.

well i've gone thru 2 full tanks of gas, both have shown increases since chip removal. This last tank I got 13.5mpg!!!!!!!! So happy to see those #'s on my calculator.
Mike T, I will be calling you. Hopefully tomorrow. Need to make other calls too.
