micro tuner/premium fuel question
micro tuner/premium fuel question
well i installed the micro tuner this weekend and i am using the tow perf setting with 93 octane. the truck feels more responsive and shifts a whole lot better/crisp shifts. as far as hp, i am sure that it is there but not sure if i can "feel" it. so far i am pleased with the product.
i have a couple questions though.
1. do i have to change it back to stock if i bring my truck in for an oil change, or can i just leave it in the tow perf mode?
2. it doesnt really effect me but around here our pumps have 87, 90, and 93 octane. is the 90 octane here concidered premium? would it be safe to use the 90 with the tow perf setting?
thanks

Hi Warrior,
No, your 90 octane is not "premium" gas - it's mid-grade, and you need to use premium - so use the 93 octane.
Anytime you are running performance tuning, you need to use the very best quality fuel available, never try to take shortcuts - otherwise you shortchange yourself, compromise the results, and could even experience detonation depending on the fuel's energy content is & how effective the knock sensor system in that individual vehicle is - the bottom line is, use only the best quality fuels.
And no, if you're just going in for an oil change or a tire rotation, you do not need to return back to stock. Now if you had a *problem* with the vehicle, then yes, you should return to stock before service, whether the vehicle is under warranty or not doesn't matter - but for an oil change, you'll be fine.
Have fun!
