can i use the superchip with a micro...
Hey yall,
Ive got the old school superchip, and i was wondering if i can use the micro tuner and the chip at the same time, or would i have to take out the chip then use the tuner... just wondering.
Oh and also, is there anything for the cunsumer that lets us program our own superships or is it strictly dealer...
Thanx

Hi ro,
As Orlando correctly mentioned, you have to remove *any* performance chip before you can use a Micro Tuner on your PCM, as any performance chip attaches to the Ford EEC PCM's via the J3 connector on the back, and when that circuit is engaged, nothing can write to the internal EEPROM in the PCM - so the chip (Superchip or any other) has to be pulled before you can use the Micro Tuner. In short, it's either/or - not both.
And yes, there is an SCT product where you can do your own tuning, but it's $800 (US) and is not intended for the average layman - it's meant for the professional racer, and it will not teach you how to tune. For anyone that does not have some pretty serious background in PCM programming, they'll be lost for some time, as the learning curve is steep and long in terms of really understanding everything - nobody can learn to be a real tuner quickly, it takes a lot of knowledge & serious tools to do it right - the tool is available, but you still will have to get yourself up to speed on using it - it will come with a baseline tune you can start from, but it'll still take you some time to be able to make changes and not create problems, so keep in mind you need some good knowledge to take proper advantage of such a tool. If you have a vehicle that has serious engine modifications (or will be getting them) that would require custom tuning expertise and think you'd like to go that route, call us & we can discuss it with you.
