Wake up call almost here
Wake up call almost here
Finally....
I ordered a MicroTuner 1715 from 2D today, should be here Friday. $280 + $11 for select shipping. I think regular ground was $8. Not bad at all either way.....
I've already done the intake and exhaust, so I'm hope'n this will put the icing on the cake
Time for the 4.6 to get outta bed!

If you've already done the intake and exaust I think you'll be very happy. I did it the other way around. I've got my performance tune now I have to let her breath properly. More then happy with my Micro Tuner.
I leave my truck on the tow performance tune all summer long. We take the trailer somewhere at least once a month. You can change as often as you want, within reason. Just a bother switching from 87 to 91-2 octane. When you go to a 91 octane program you should run the 87 tank down as far as you can before filling with 91. You want the best gas you can get when you switch over. Theres the chance of detonation and it will take longer to get the full benefit of the tune. When you switch you'll know it right away but the truck has to "learn" and get settled in to the new tune. To the way you drive. Takes 80 or 100 miles. You probably won't notice it but the truck will get a little better. I run the 91 tow performance in the summer and switch to the 87 program in the winter. doesn't really cost that much to put 91 in. I've never tried the max performance program. I don't really need it. I may try it this spring. I have a friend the belongs to the Minnesota Street Rod Assoc. He wants to take it to the strip and see what it will do. He says its the strongest 5.4 F150 hes ever seen. He's never seen it on the max performance tune

Thanks for the info Mike......
I've been wandering around all week with a 1/4 tank of 87 so it will be down to almost nothing when the 1715 gets here. Then a full tank of 91.....
I tow mostly during the summer, so I'll try the Max tune 1st, then when I tow my bike trailer around I'll the the Tow Perf and see how much of a diff there is.

Well, so far so good....
I'm pretty happy with the improvement, the shift points are WAY better, and the power/response is definitely noticable.
Its doing 2 things that are somewhat notable that I find either weird or annoying though......
1. Under wide-open throttle shifts, its shifting at around 5200rpm, the issue I have is that it 'feels' like its pretty much done 'pulling' around 5000rpm. Could be I just need to get used to it, or the adaptive programming is still working itself out.... I'll give it more time.
2. Theres been a couple times when I've let off the throttle from freeway speeds, and the engine doesnt free-wheel for a moment. i.e normally, I let off the throttle to coast before braking, and theres no engine braking. In this case, I can feel feel engine braking for a moment, and then it 'lets go' as if to coast as normal (like it did before).
Dunno if that makes sense.....
I'm gonna run a couple more tank-fulls on the Max Perf program, see how it does, then try the Tow-Perf program and see how much diff there is.

Mine pulls hard right up to shift point. My first to second shift will get me a chirp from the tire most of the time. Give it some time and run the BEST gas you can get. I go out of my way to get unoxegenated 92. Only one place to get it around here. Stick with Conoco, Citco, and Shell if you can. Stay away from Amoco. Since BP bought them out most stations are using BPs high sulpher low BTU crap. It will run on any 91+ but good gas makes a difference. I haven't noticed any difference when backing off on freeway. That may go away. Let your truck get used to the tune. If it doesn't and bothers you check with Mike Troyer.
Well..... Just finished up the 2nd tank of 91, and things have improved. The weird torque-converter-lockup-coasting-lag thingy stopped the next day after my last post. The power has picked up some, and its pulling even better now. Its 'feels' like its got solid power to redline now.
I'll pretty much attribute it to the adaptive programming doing its thing and re-learning. I know I coulda reset the PCM, but I didnt want to re-do all my stereo & EQ presets.... LOL!
What nice is that MPG seems to be going up a little.

Glad to hear it's settleing in nicely. I never reset my computer, just let it sort its self out but I run the tow program all summer long. Haven't seen much improvement in MPG but I'm afraid I drive it a little harded then I did. Maybe a little when I'm towing but the towing performance is so much better I don't really care. Have a nice day and injoy your truck. I get excited every time I walk out to the garage.

Hi fellas,
Actually, there is no need to clear the PCM after flashing it with the Micro Tuner, as that is automatically done as part of that process - flashing the PCM, even just going back to the stock program, effectively clears out all the previous adaptive strategy adjustments, so you start again from scratch. Back when the MT first came out, some weren't sure about that, but we have determined that the PCM is cleared anytime you flash it with any program, modified or stock. Now you still will need to put a few hundred miles ion it to get the full 100% power gain, but as for the adaptive strategy adjustments, they are cleared when you flash the PCM.
Just FYI..........
