Superchip and Warranty
Superchip and Warranty
Hey all. Does putting one of these things in void my warranty? Also, what kind of performance difference can I notice by putting it in my '03 F-150 5.4L FX-4?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Hi baddog,
No, the Superchips tuning does not automatically void your warranty - that is actually illegal.
The only way a warranty claim can be legally denied over the use of any aftermarket part (whether that aftermarket part is appearance, replacement or performance in nature) is if the aftermarket part actually *damages* the vehicle - if that happens, then of course it's not fair to expect the automaker to pay for that, and that is exactly what the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act provides for. You can read up about it over at the SEMA web site, at www.sema.org.
As far as how much performance gain you will get, there are 3 different tunes in the Superchips Micro Tuner, ranging from an 87 octane program that will get you about an 8 HP gain at the wheels all the way to our "MAX" performance tun that gets you over 20 HP at the wheels. In round numbers, with the premium gas performance tune in the Micro Tuner, think of the Superchips tuning as roughly about a 10% raw power gainer, and the torque comes up by roughly 13%-15%. In other words, it's going to feel like you just picked up about 10% more motor under the hood, is perhaps the best way to describe it.
You can read up on this in detail over at our web site at www.TroyerPerformance.com - in fact, here is a link that will take you right to the page that lists all the Superchips products available for Ford vehicles, including the F-150: http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...chips%3BFoMoCo
Read up on Part#'s 1100 (the traditional single program Superchip), 1300 (the 2-program Superchip Flip Chip), and then Part# 1715, the Superchips Micro Tuner - that is what most people are using, the Micro Tuner. thanks to it's many features & 3 different performance programs & simple 10 minute plug-n-play installation. Make sure to click on the link for each part that takes you to the detail page there, and you'll find the most details on Part# 1715, just to let you know.
In general, an optimized powertrain program is the single best bang for the buck performance enhancement you can make to these vehicles, as well as most other computer-controlled vehicles. Not because the tuning is going to give you 50 HP, but simply because nothing else for the same or less cost will improve performance more - hence it's the best bang for the buck.
Please feel free to spend some time here using the search feature, as the questions you have asked are all very basic, and have been asked & answered here literally thousands of times - so there';s plenty of material to read right here about the experiences & results that others have been posting here for years about the Superchips tuning for these vehicles.
And you should also feel free to give us a call at our number listed below if you'd like to go over any of this in detail, we'll be happy to.
Merry Christmas, & best of luck with your truck!

Hey and welcome!
There are a whole bunch of happy Superchips customers here. I think it's probably one of the most common mods. So do a search and wait for some responses and I bet that soon enough you will join the many who have already become "chipped".
Good luck!

Thanks a lot!!
Best mod I have done so far!!!
As far as the warranty, I understand what Mike is saying, however, I would not give the dealership any "ammunition" to use against you on a warranty claim. I usually reinstall the factory settings before taking my truck to the dealer for service.
