what if the battery is disconnected...?
what if the battery is disconnected...?
I have the 1715 micro tuner and I'm running the High Perf. program in my 5.4...
Does anybody know what would happen if the battery is disconnected with the High Perf Tuning or Towing Perf program is installed and then reconnected...? Does the computer reset to stock? In that case, my tuner is "vin locked" and I would imagine that it would have to be rest by the manufacturer... am I correct in this assumption?

If the program is already installed then the battery gets disconected it will stay in the program that was downloaded. It will not go back to stock. Some guys do this on purpose to clear it so the computer will learn the new program setting quicker.
Hi Tom,
No, you won't lose your performance program just by disconnecting the battery - the memory that contains the PCM's programming is not "volatile" memory like RAM - it's an EEPROM, meaning it's a "flash" EPROM (EEPROM), which can be erased & reprogrammed many times - but once it is programmed, it does *not* require constant application of power to maintain the program's integrity - in fact, it doesn't require any power at all, once it's been programmed, to retain that program.
Now when you disconnect the battery for a few minutes, you *will* clear out the adaptive strategy adjustments, but you will *not* lose your program - so you don't have to worry about not being able to change a battery when the original goes dead, or anything like that causing you to lose your programming, that isn't going to happen.
Also, anytime you flash your PCM (meaning use the Micro Tuner to change which program you're running on), that too will wipe out any changes made by adaptive strategy, so you "start from scratch" in that regard just by flashing the PCM with the Micro Tuner. Some people will still clear the PCM even after flashing it with the Micro Tuner just to make sure it's cleared of all codes & any previous adaptive strategy adjustments - I used to, but don't any longer, as flashing it wipes all that out anyway.
Have fun!
