Does the microtuner adjust the dashpot?

I was wondering if the Superchips Mirotuner will adjust the Dashpot control allowing the idle too drop down alot faster, like it should, rather then lingering up there like Fords love to do.

Hi v8,

No, and neither is any other such device going to allow you to do that, either. Micro Tuners, programmers, etc. aren't for custom tuning of individual engine parameters - we'd never allow that, as that would get so many people into trouble that don't know what they're doing. The number of people among the general public that even know what a traditional dashpot is, and beyond that, that are aware there are dashpot-like controls in these PCM's is almost non-existent - it's a tiny number of the public at large, fractions of a tenth of a percent. Just like the number of people who actually have real knowledge of tuning a computer controlled vehicle in general is extremely tiny. So you just don't put those kinds of tools in the hands of the public at large, that's one of the best ways I know of to have problems.

I'm glad *you* are aware of this, and if you'd like, we can certainly do a custom program for you to dial that in however you want it, as I *can* control all of those parameters, for dashpot & everything else, too. The dashpot control is right in the scalars, we've got direct access to all those parameters. The main thing is to get the decay rate & minimum clip vales correct, so you get the best combination of engine braking on decel without causing the engine to stall when blipping the throttle in Neutral, etc.

However, the specific characteristic you are talking about, the elevated idle speed just after startup, is better controlled by the various idle parameters, like the idle speed adders for IAT/ACT, ECT, etc. - that's where the parameters are for how long the idle speed is bumped up after startup before it settles back down, and just exactly how far that idle is bumped up.

The bottom line is, no Micro Tuner or similar device is going to give you the ability to adjust those kinds of parameters capability - at least, not today. If you'd like to give us a call, I can go over all of this with you & offer you a couple of solutions, etc.
