1715 question

I keep getting code 1635 with my superchip tunner. It says tire/axel out of acceptable range. What does that mean? Thanks.

I noticed this too on mine after I adjusted the tire size settings. What I did is timed my vehicle thru state marked 1/4 mile speed traps and adjusted the tire size varibles with the 1725 to get a corrected speedometer that is correct with my true speed, I only had to change the setting 1/4 inch. It has not made any problems that I have noticed and just figured it threw this code because the setttings are not "norm".

Thanks for any reply!

Hi Guys,

That's normal after changing speedometer calibration in some PCM codes - the PCM picks up that it's a non-factory parameter & throws a soft code - it's a "soft" code, not a hard code (one that illuminates the Check Engine or SES (Service Engine Soon) lights) - so you only see that P1635 code if you scan for DTC's, you don't get any lights or warnings on the dash, etc.

At Ford dealerships, they can only change tire size or gear ratio in the PCM to something that was offered by Ford on that vehicle for that model year - meaning a tire size or a gear ratio you *could* have gotten from the factory on that vehicle. Anything different from those factory parameters, they can't even change, thanks in no small part to this same issue! But with the Micro Tuner, you can plug in those non-factory parameters to correct the speedometer (which also corrects shift points in the automatics) - so the vehicle will operate properly - but on some of these vehicles you will get that soft code if you scan it afterwards.

In short - you can ignore it, it's not something that will cause any problems or make dash lights come on, etc.
