what is the difference in the new 1715 max program
what is the difference in the new 1715 max program
i just bought a 1715 from tse 11/23/03 and it looks like they sent me the old model with only one program. just wanted to know how much more hp in the new no tow max program from the high octane tow safe.
Hi Zebo777,
First - if you purchased that Micro Tuner recently, I would advise you to call your dealer and send it back - have them replace it with the current unit at no additional charge.
There is no excuse for anyone to ship you a previous-generation product like that - at least, without being told about it up front and having that choice. We're seeing a number of dealers (usually smaller lower-volume dealers) offering lowball pricing to blow out older inventory - unfortunately that has been done a lot over the past few months, and it's done at *your* expense. Some of them even make up stories about the new 1715 still not even shipping yet, etc. - we've seen that scenario reported here a number of times since the new 1715's came out in mid-September - it's up to you of course, but I wouldn't accept that.
The 1715 was changed effective with *all* shipments from the manufacturer starting on September 15th (2-1/2 months ago), so obviously that unit is not current, and that company *knew* it wasn't current when they sent it to you.
Now, to actually answer your question...........
There are 3 different performance tunes in the new 1715's - your previous generation unit has the "tow-perf" program, which is for premium gas and is towing compatible - it's a very nice program that thousands of F-150 owners are using. The new 1715 has that same program, as well as 2 other additional programs - a program for 87 octane that is tow-safe and gets you about an 8 hp gain at the rear wheels, and then the program you're talking about, our "max" performance tune - we helped to develop that program over 2 years ago - and it's now in the 1715 Micro Tuner. This "max" performance tune will add another 8-10 HP rear wheel over what the premium gas tow-safe program (the program in your current unit) makes.
In a situation like yours, I recommend returning that previous generation unit and having your dealer replace it with a current unit at no additional cost. However, if they won't do that for you, then just return your current unit to them for a refund, and get the current 1715 Micro Tuner elsewhere.
I find it distasteful for a company to ship previous-generation product to unsuspecting customers like that - if they didn't at least tell you of the existence of the new units and give you a *choice* between them, then what they did is not acceptable, IMHO. You ordered the 1715 thinking you would get the current unit, but got shipped the previous generation unit instead - that's not a company I'd want to do business with, but I do suggest giving them the opportunity to make it right, as that would be the best outcome with the least amount of "hassle" to you at this point.
Best of luck with whatever you decide to do!
