Mike I recieved the 4# pulley a few hours ago and put it on.
I wanted to change the shift points on the micro tuner so I hooked it up and it told me what program I had and asked if I wanted to return to stock...I entered NO but it would not establish communications....so I thought if I uploaded the stock program back I could start over with the performance tune... well I entered YES and it uploaded the stock program but the micro tuner still will not go to the tuning page, it just says begin ign off > ign on>fuel sys disabled> tune or diagnostic, enter TUNE Vehicle...it says establishing communications and then returns to "begin press > ign off" ???? wont let me tune?
This is the first time I have hooked the 1715 up since I uploaded the performance program. the truck has been driven about 400 miles has not been touched by anyone but me.
so now I have the stock program and the 4# installed...I cant drive it untill I get the micro tuner figured out....or I have to put the stock pulley back on ...need your help!
can you give a quick explination if your on line tonight ...otherwise I'll call in the AM. thanks Clay

Hi Clay,
The issue you've experienced is pretty rare, and affects only a tiny percentage of Lightnings, and a few of the factory-supercharged Harleys. And even at that, it's only a very few, it's pretty rare even in those models.
By now you've already been thru all of this in detail with the manufacturer - you spoke with Justin at Superchips, who explained this to you in detail. I was also told that after Justin went over all of that with you, apparently your wife called them again. At any rate, the manufacturer has explained this to you as well as what needs to be done to correct it - and they've issued you an RMA to have them take care of it.
It is *not* true that you can't drive the vehicle at all with the 4 PSI pulley on the stock program - what we say is that we don't want Lightnings running around at wide-open throttle or doing any drag strip racing or heavy towing, etc., until they've got the appropriate tune for the increased boost. That in no way means you cannot drive your vehicle at all, or that you can't drive it in a perfectly normal manner - you can.
Specifically, what I don't like seeing is full-throttle being used in anything other than 1st gear in that situation, where you're running a big boost pulley on the stock program - in your case a 4 PSI pulley. This is so you don't run out of MAF voltage in the stock program (which only allows 4.78 volts of the MAF's 5.0 volt range) and make the PCM default over to using a failed MAF table - which it will do to protect the engine, so even then you don't lose gross control over the motor - it's just not responding to even higher loads beyond that point quite like it normally would. This is why you've seen me tell Lightning owners that they need to have a custom tune when using a higher-boost pulley - because I don't want to see anyone making 1/4 mile passes with a bigger pulley on the stock tune, and that's what many of those guys are doing that are running with a bigger pulley on the stock tune - drag racing. But that does not also mean that you cannot drive your vehicle at all, or that you can't drive it in a normal manner, you can - it's not disabled, we just don't like seeing full throttle used after 1st gear on the stock program with a bigger pulley, and that is very easy to avoid for the short time it will take Superchips to make the change to your Micro Tuner.
But at the same time I am *very* glad to see you being so careful about this, Clay - THANK YOU! I can't tell you how happy that makes me.
So many times I've preached about not running high boost pulleys on the stock tuning, and it's because most guys doing that are drag racing, too - the concern is what happens at full-throttle in the higher gears, not during normal driving - anyway, thanks for your concern on this, and you'll be fine while Superchips takes care of making the changes on your Micro Tuner.
Please feel free to give me a call to go over any of this if you like, Clay - and enjoy your Thanksgiving!

Thanks Mike for the info on driving it. I have another truck to drive. I was hopeing Superchips would send me another tuner so I could make a few local lightning get togethers that require full throttle in all gears
, but Justin said it would just do the same thing.
anyway.... If you talk to Justin again could you find out how long it will take to fix and send back? They should have recieved it 11/28/03
I will send the other pulley to you. thanks Clay
