More bang for the $? Tuner or Exhaust?
More bang for the $? Tuner or Exhaust?
In your opinions. Which upgrade will give me more bang for the buck. I can't decide between a Superchips tuner or a Magnaflow SISO exhaust? I am looking to increase my gas mileage as well as my performance. I will be getting both eventually But I just can't afford it right now so I need to decide which to get first.

I went with the tuner first. I just installed it a few minutes ago. I'm looking forward to see how it improves my trucks horse trailer pulling abilities.

Hello hess,
Optimizing the powertrain program is a far better bang for the buck, and will reduce your acceleration times and improve overall driveability and performance significantly more than the Magnaflow exhaust will - which is the best exhaust on the market for these trucks & SUV's by the way, excellent choice in exhausts!
Optimizing the powertrain program in your truck will drop your 0-60 & 1/4 mile times by anywhere from a half-second to over a full second - whereas the Magnaflow cat-back setup will get you, depending on your truck's exact configuration & thus it's actual power-to-weight ratio, roughly a couple of tenths off those times - so it's no contest.
This is generally true of just about any computer-controlled vehicle, optimizing it's powertrain program is generally the best bang-for-the-buck performance enhancement, as nothing else for the same or less cost will improve performance more. It won't suddenly turn a 5000 lb. truck into a rocketship of course, it's simply the best bang for the buck.
The Superchips tuning works *all* the time, at any throttle position, at any rpm, you'll have about 8%-10% more raw power on tap in any situation, as well as all the other benefits - removal or optimization of all the various transitional delays & retards, etc. that hurt performance significantly, in addition to just the raw power gain.
The Top 3 best bang for the buck mods on the 1997-2003 F-150/Expedition are: optimizing the powertrain program, getting the restriction out of the air intake tract, and then getting the restriction out of the exhaust stream. Now you can actually do those 3 specific mods in any order that *you* prefer, whatever makes you happiest - this is just the order of actual bang for the buck, and the way most people tend to do their mods.
Please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below to go over any of this, or anything else performance-related about your vehicle, as we're happy to help. We've also got a web site at www.TroyerPerformance.com - there's good info there on performance, for example, take a look at our Performance Packages section (click on "Shop" to get there once the home page loads), that will give you a good overview of bang for the buck, what all can be done, etc.
Here is a direct link to take you right to our Stage 1 thru Stage 5 upgrade packages: http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...edition%20Etc.
And of course, there are also the various individual areas with all the individual parts you can check out from Intake to Exhaust, to you name it.
Best of luck with your truck,

I'm getting my tuner tomorrow. I went with the tuner just because the tuner were on the group buy with the good price.

I bought the exhaust over the chip (first) because I wanted a little noise from the exhaust. LOVE the exhaust, but the chip made a much bigger difference than the exhaust.
I've had the catback a few months...headers a couple weeks...put the chip in lastnight...the intake is on the way (can't wait
)
I personally think I noticed more power with the headers than I did with the catback.
Exhaust is magnaflow 15609
Chip is superchips flip chip
Headers are JBA (right now, I can't reccomend them due to fitment issues - they're working with me on my issues though)
Intake will be Air Force One
