Superchips Microtuner Expectations from TroyerPerformance

Hi Mike,

I have an F250 with a 5.4L, with a 3.73 automatic transmission.

What can I expect from the tuner in horsepower improvement?

What items does the tuner tune?

I am getting poor mileage already. Will the improvements come at the expense of worse mileage?

Is there a good document that shows the improvements?

Are there differenct programs for different scenarios of truck usage? If so, will these different scenarios change the mileage per gallon? Which program is the best for mileage?

Thanks,

Patrick

Hi Patrick,

The best thing to do is to give us a call so I can answer your questions in proper detail - that is far too detailed to type it all out, as it it takes 100-200 times longer to type it all out than to simply talk over the phone. Thus highly detailed info we just don't have the time to be able to "discuss" here or in email, or anywhere else via typing - those detailed types of matters need to be done over the phone or in person, which we're more than happy to do.

I also suggest spending some time reading all of the info that is already on these message boards, as virtually anything you could ever want to know about the Micro Tuner has already been posted here, and many times. You might also want to perhaps go back and take another look at our web site as well and read up on Part#'s 1100, 1300 & 1715 - those are the 3 different Superchips products that can be used on your vehicle, and between those 3 parts and what's posted here, the information is extremely thorough.

Your questions are "the basics," meaning the same basic things that everybody wants to know, and thus get asked every time another new person drops by here - which is basically just about every day - so instead of typing out the same answers every day as new people ask the same questions, we refer you to read all the info that is *already* here, as there is a wealth of it. You'll want to get familiar with the search feature - the icon to access it is in the upper right area of your screen here, and it's your key to instantly unlocking all the info here.

To get you some immediate info.............

NO, your fuel mileage is not going to go down, the only way that can happen is if you use a lower energy fuel or drive the vehicle harder after installing it - as virtually everyone does for at least a little while when they install a new performance part.

There are 3 different programs, 87 octane tow-safe, premium gas tow-safe, and the "MAX" performance program for premium gas that is not towing compatible. So yes, you've got programs for any type of use. The power gains are different with each program, with 8y octane yielding the least gains, and the "MAX" performance program yielding the highest gains.

Please feel free to give us a call, as we'll be happy to go over all of this in detail with you & answer all of your questions. Our phone number is just below & we'll be happy to help.

mike i don't know if you deal much in chebbies but i have a buddy who has a 02 with a 5.3 and he put a microtuner in, and it worked great for about a month, but after that it started screwing with his speedo, like he'd be doing 70 and it would say 55 and his tach was goofy and so forth, and there was someother stuff but i guess i don't really remember what, but you have any ideas? he took it back to the dealer he bought it from and it still doesn't work. thanks poter

Hi Poter,

Sure, we deal in the GM's - & Mopar's too!

It's really not possible for me to tell you what's going on there, I didn't provide or install the product and have no access to the vehicle - thus I wouldn't know what has really happened - but what I can tell you is that in our experience as America's oldest Superchips WD is this is not something the Micro Tuner has *ever* done to any customer of ours - not in any make of vehicle, Ford, GM or Mopar - and we have almost as many GM owners as we do Ford owners for customers.

My hunch is I doubt that is actually a Micro Tuner issue - perhaps, but I doubt it - it really sounds more like a VSS (vehicle speed sensor) problem to me - like maybe a failed or failing VSS sensor, or a wheel speed sensor for the ABS system, etc.

Returning the program to stock is the first thing to do, and if that doesn't take care of it, then it most likely has nothing to do with the Micro Tuner at all, but instead is a different problem - like a failed VSS. Your friend needs to work with his vendor to get that resolved, to determine if this actually has anything to do with the Micro Tuner itself.

Superchips warranties the Micro Tuner for as long as you own the vehicle for which it was purchased - so if there is a problem with that Micro Tuner, the manufacturer will stand behind the product, they're very good about that.

I wish I could be more helpful to you, but I'm very limited in this situation, as I'm sure you can appreciate - best of luck to your friend, and tell him that if he's not having any success with his vendor, to call Superchips *directly*. Also, tell him that if he has returned the program back to stock and still has this problem, chances are it has nothing to do with the Micro Tuner but instead is another problem, like a VSS sensor that is failing - it happens sometimes, even in new vehicles.

Best of luck & sorry I can't be of more direct help!
