Is the microtuner out for the 4.2??
Hi sd,
No it's not, & there really is no way to predict how long it will be until the 4.2 V6 gets included. As we discussed before, Superchips had hoped to have it done by perhaps the end of summer.
Right now, their first priority is updating the 1715 to be a multi-program unit first, and then once that is done (and that will be done in a matter of days), then the next change to it will be to either include the 4.2 V6, or include the 3.0 & 4.0 Rangers - we're lobbying hard for the 4.2 V6, of course.
Give it another 30-60 days or so, that should hopefully be enough time for this to get done from where they are right now, just to give you a rough idea.
Now in terms of "which is better," there is no difference in the tuning, the tuning is the same - but with the Micro Tuner, the new updated 1715, it will have 3 programs - 87 octane towing, premium gas towing, and premium gas "max" performance (not towing compatible) programs in it, so it'll give you 3 programs instead of just 1 - so from that standpoint it's more flexible.
But the *real* deciding factor is where you are going to do more involved mods that require custom engine tuning - if so, then you need to use the traditional Superchip module instead of the Micro Tuner. Frankly, with as little fuel injector capacity as the 4.2 Vt6 has, I advise anyone that owns one and who intended to improve it's performance go with the 2-program Flip Chip so they can get the custom tuning they'll need in the future. Once they hit about 250 HP or so it's time to upsize the injectors, & you can just have the chip updated with the custom tuning required. You can't go beyond about 250 HP without bigger injectors, and if you stick by an 80% duty cycle, then it's even less, so larger fuel injectors are in any 4.2 V6 F-150 owner's future that intends to go beyond about 250-260 HP. Thus, using the chip is generally the way to go.
Nice to see you again, by the way!

Hey sdF150 guy,
I saw a note on my desk sometime in the past few days that you had called, and with all the hustle & bustle around here & in getting ready for the hurricane, etc., I cannot for the life of me remember if I have returned your call or not. And I don't have that message anymore with your phone number, or I'd simply call you to double-check.
Sooooooo........... I wanted to shoot you a quick note in case I didn't return your last call, to apologize, and to ask you to maybe shoot me your number in email or something so I can return your call & answer any questions, etc.
Thanks, & enjoy your weekend!

Hi Chris,
If you have a 1999-200 F-150, then yes, you can recalibrate the speedometer for changes to tire size & gear ratio.
As for pricing, the rules of F-150 Online forbid us from discussing specific pricing here on the boards, so as not to turn this place into a war zone - so for that kind of info, drop by our web site at www.TroyerPerformance.com - once the home page loads, click on "Shop" and then you'll see the Superchips section, which you should enter by clicking on the "List by Vehicle Type" link. You're looking for Part# 1715, which is very easy to find & will give you the details, pricing, etc.
Try this link, it should hopefully take you right there if I've done this correctly here: http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...chips%3BFoMoCo
Good luck, & don't hesitate to call us if you'd like to go over anything about the new 1715 Micro Tuner in more detail!

Hi Chris!
No, the 4.2 V6 is not in the 1715 yet - Superchips asked us to help them decide on whether to include the 3.0 & 4.0 Rangers, or the 4.2 V6 in the F-150 as the next change to the 1715 - and even though it would help sales a lot more to add the Rangers, we have been steadfast in our request that they add the F-150's 4.2 V6 as the next change.
So today, the 4.2 V6 is not in the 1715, but we do expect that to change, sometime in the next 8-12 weeks, is about the best guess we can make - we might get lucky & have it happen sooner, only time will tell.
In the meantime, 4.2 V6 owners who want the Superchips tuning need to use the traditional Superchip modules.
Have fun,
