Mike: New Tuner Question
Mike: New Tuner Question
I read in another post that it isn't good to change the settings frequently on the new tuner? I tow often so it isn't good for me to be changing from the "performance" setting to the "towing" setting and then back? How is this different than the flip chip, wouldn't it be doing the same thing? How many times is it OK to change? Maybe I misunderstood. Thanks and can't wait for the new tuner to come out!
Hi Orlando,
We're simply talking about using some basic common sense, that's all - the fact that in general, it's not preferable to do frequent flashing of just about *any* "mission-critical" flash device - things like the bios chip in your PC, for example, the same thing applies - there is no hard limit to how many times you can flash, most modern ROMs will take hundreds of flashes - but in general, you just don't want to do frequent reflashes. Nor are there any realistic scenarios in which that is required with the Micro Tuner.
Nobody is ever going to get good results just by changing to premium gas for 1 tank, for example, or by changing to the max performance tune for just a brief period - you still need 350-500 miles to get the most from a program change from a flash like that, so it makes no sense to be frequently switching those 1715 programs - it's not necessary. Just use the program required for how the vehicle is being operated & what fuel it's being fed.
There is no "limit" on how many times you can flash the PCM, it's just basic common sense when dealing with flash devices in general - you don't want to flash your PCM a dozen times a month, nor should you flash your PC's bios a dozen times a month, etc., etc. It's not any hard-set "limitation," it's just trying to use a little common sense, so to speak - computer manufacturers have been preaching that for many years.
This has nothing in common with the Flip Chip's operation whatsoever, by the way - the PCM is *not* being flashed by using any traditional performance chip, whether it's a single program unit or a multi-program unit - the J3 external override data path is activated, that's all - you're not flashing the ROM when you flip the switch on the Flip Chip.
I hope that clears this up for you,
