microtuner performance
hi,
I got a 2001 reg cab shortbed 5.4, and i installed the microtuner awhile ago and i am wondering what kind of numbers i should expect. Before i have run 15.75 with an opened up intake and dual flowmasters, and i have then added the microtuner and electric fans, would high 14's be within reason? I took it to the track awhile ago and it was quite dissappointing, the only thing positive i saw was the my eighth mile mph was around 73mph, and i think that equates to a high 14 second run. Basically my 60' were horrible(2.6ish) and the tranny was slipping as i found out a few weeks after(had to get it replaced). So what do you guys think? thanks.

Hi FastEddie,
Well, the Micro Tuner *averages* knocking off roughly about a half-second from 1/4 mile ET's, the range is from a low of about 3.5 tenths to slightly over a full second of the 1/4 mile ET, with about a half-second being the overall average.
Add to that 1-3 tenths off your ET's from the electric fans, and you'd be doing well to hit times in the 15.10's to perhaps 15.0's, I'd guess, under those exact same conditions. And that's all it can be, is a guess, even with our many years of experience modifying these vehicles, as you never know the fuel quality, vehicle condition, atmospheric conditions, etc. are going to be on any given day.
If your truck knocks more than a half-second off it's time from the Micro Tuner, then *maybe* you'd have a chance at getting into the high 14's under the same conditions as you ran that 15.75 in, but otherwise, I'd say that's a bit of a stretch.
You just never know.........
For example, in Neal's truck he knocked I think it was .61 or .63 off his 1/4 mile ET with just the Superchips tuning - if that happened for you, then yes, you just might hit a sub-15.0 time under the same conditions you ran the 15.75 in. But it would take what I would call somewhat above average result to get into the 14's under those same conditions, with the only additional changes being the Micro Tuner and our fan kit. It's very close, so you just might do it.
It will also depend on the weather quite a bit don't forget, especially this time of year. The hotter it is, the slower you will run, period. You can actually have situations in which you run some times in spring in stock trim, do a bunch of mods, then run again in summer and actually go slower than you did in spring in stock trim!
You do need to shoot for getting your short times (the 60' times) down to about the 2.2 - 2.3 second range with your configuration. With the transmission fixed, that will certainly help since it shouldn't be slipping as you mentioned it was before.
The bottom line is, you just won't know until you run it.
It should be close, with those 2 additional mods and in the exact same temperature, humidity, baro pressure & track conditions that you ran the 15.75 in, you should be fairly close to about a 15.0 ET under those same conditions, all else being equal and the planets being aligned, etc.

let us hope the planets do align.
But i am hoping for high 14's, but i would not be pretty pleased with a very low 15 second pass. I was just thinking that with the truck being one of the lighter models with the 5.4, then the microtuner would knock off more e.t. Thanks a lot for replying.
