MT for 2003 Expedition yet?
MT for 2003 Expedition yet?
Hello anyone
We are new owners of a used 2003 Expedition 5.4L and are already on the upgrade trail.
Seems there are lots of people in favour of the Superchips MicroTuner but I have yet to see one advertised where the 2003 Expedition is listed as supported.
We are planning to pull our mid-size trailer with this truck and are expecting to want a little more "go".
Wondered if anyone has seen or heard about Superchips adding the programming for the new models?
Thanks for any and all replies!

Hi Cobrarep,
That's going to be a while yet, as the 2003 Expedition, just like the 2004 F-150 (P221), does not use the EEC-V PCM. Instead, it uses a variant of the newer Black Oak PCM, which uses the PowerPC processor & expanded 190-pin bus.
That 2003 Expy application will be released in the future, most likely at the same time that Superchips releases their application for the 2004 F-150's, a few months down the road.
If you like (& if we haven't done so already for you), shoot us an email at: Sales@TroyerPerformance.com & we'll put you on the list to notify as soon as that application is ready to ship.

Hi Mike
Thanks very much for your reply. I am new to posting on the boards here but have been reading other's posts for a little while and am aware that you know of what you speak.
So something interesting happened today then - I wrote my post last night, today I thought I would check around where I live to see if there was a Superchips dealer. Asking around at work one guy mentioned a local Ford dealer that does a lot of trucks and had provided a chip for his Ford diesel that he was very happy with.
So I called this dealer and he said he did not know if there was anything available for the 2003 Expedition yet but if I would provide the VIN he would call Florida and call me back. Half hour later he calls back and says that he was able to track down my computer code/build through the VIN and that they CAN provide a Superchip for our truck.
Now I did not ask him for a chip specifically, I asked if Superchips offered anything for our vehicle and he came back with this info. Not only that but he said they could set us up with a chip as early as tomorrow which I guess means it would not be a special order item for him? He actually said he was able to download a file from the Superchips web site - does this make sense to you? Since I am not in a rush and since I have not seen any ads on sites such as yours mention "2003 Expeditions" applications I told him I would get back in touch later (also did not care too much for the price he mentioned).
Questions:
From my limited understanding I thought the chip and the Microtuner offered much the same capabilities?? Or would there be a program available for a chip that is not available in a Microtuner? Perhaps my post was too specific when I said Microtuner?
For curiosity's sake here is my VIN
1FMPU18L23L08252
Does this number provide any info that the description "2003 Expedition 5.4" does not?
Not to take up your time and sorry to ramble on so long but after a recent NOS experiment on my Mustang went wrong I am trying to be a little more "one toe at a time" (especially with Debbie's truck) kind of guy.
We are not towing our trailer for a while yet so there is no rush for us. If Superchips is coming out with a product for our truck sometime we can certainly wait into 2004.
Thanks for reading, thanks for any additional info!

Hi CR,
It would be very interesting to see someone attempt to install a Superchip on a 2003 Expedition since there is no J3 connector on the PCM to which the Superchip must attach, that would be a pretty neat trick.
All kidding aside, unless you have some rare hybrid that we've never seen to date, I.E., a 2003 Expy with an EEC-V PCM instead of the Black Oak/Ptech PCM, you can't get any Superchips application for it just yet, & someone has just made a mistake most likely is my guess.
