Question nitrous with chip

hello to all

i'm new to the computer chips so don't shoot me down to quick for a dumb question. but anyway i just recently purchased a 75 shot wet nitrous system and i have a superchip waiting to get burned. My question is do i have to get it "custom" burned for that small of shot? Or could i just get it burned at a local shop that dose the general burn?
Also i know alot of times when you get a chip burned they advance your timming and with nitrous thats a no no so what i was wondering could i still have the advantages of advanced timming but when using the nitrous run like the 104 octane and still be safe? Or would i have to get it burned for the 87 octane?

Thanks in advance for any help

Hi milkman,

Not a dumb question at all.

I can't say for sure as I don't know all the exact details of your setup, but based on what you're describing in your post, it sounds like yours is the typical "wet" nitrous setup which gives you the ability to shoot the nitrous running on the factory program, without any special performance tune.

However, you don't want to run any "standard" Superchips tune with any shot of nitrous, just as you commented on, that's too much timing & it may not like the cylinder pressure rise, etc.

Anytime you are going to use nitrous in conjunction with a performance chip, it really needs to be a multi-program version like the 2-program Superchip Flip Chip. You can instantly flip the switch for the nitrous tune, to be used *only* when spraying nitrous, and then another program to provide tuning for normal operations when not spraying the nitrous. This allows optimal tuning for both scenarios, without removing or installing a chip, just flip the toggle switch in a second.

A single program performance chip doesn't work well for use with nitrous, because when you're not spraying, you'll be down on power with the reduced timing, richer fuel, etc.

If you can't get into a 2-program Superchip & have to stick with a single program unit, you'd want to just have it set up with the standard tune, and use it only when you're *not* going to be doing any spraying. It would need to be removed before spraying.

Otherwise, you can spray using that wet setup on the stock factory program, and then use a "standard" performance tune in that Superchip for the rest of the time, when you're not spraying. Not very convenient, but workable.

There are too many variables to be able to safely assume that with a wet system you could still just use the standard Superchips tune for your vehicle's computer code, and I would not take that chance.

The standard Superchips tuning is going to require the use of premium gasoline all the time anyway, and of course you need to use premium gas when shooting the nitrous as well. Forget using ANY octane boosters by the way, that is a general no-no. Some of them do work to raise octane levels, but most leave nasty deposits behind on the O2 sensors, spark plugs, etc., and some aren't very friendly to the fuel filter, so we recommend not using octane boosters.

I hope that info helps, & give us a call to go over any of this in more detail, our number is listed just below.

Good luck with your truck!

mike,

thank you, you cleared things up great i really apreciate it. I think for now i will just stick with the superchip and remove it when spraying becasue really in the end i will be very rarely using the nitrous, just wanted the truck to have a little kick
thanks again
