EEC Tuner

Anyone ever used the "EEC Tuner" software/hardware package? I saw it for sale on "iwantperformance.net" It appears to be an EEC IV & EEC V PCM tweeker where you save the factory settings after a read and then reflash the PCM. In the screen shots you see the hex code after a PCM read and then I assume you tweek your fuel/timing etc and then rewrite or flash your PCM. It looks very similar to Diablos Romulator/Revolution package.

Thanks, Ron

Hi Ron,

Just a couple of quick comments, just in case you may not already be aware (and if you are, then ignore this post!)........

Most such tools are not available for many of these newer F-150 platform vehicles (the F-150 platform has more different PCM software revisions & templates than any other vehicle, one reason why there are few such tools for these trucks & SUV's), but for those that it is actually available for, it can be a nice tool provided you already have all the tuning knowledge required to use any powertrain tuning/calibration system.

However, in the hands of those who are not skilled knowledgeable tuners it should be avoided, unless you're willing to wound parts (and maybe a *lot* of them) learning those skills.

There is no substitute for the actual *knowledge* that is required to be able to use such a tool to change the tuning of these Ford Modular motors. Meaning, these "packages" do not teach the average layman how to tune a computer controlled Ford Modular motor, or allow those who do not have solid experience & background in tuning these computer controlled Ford Mod motors to be able to do that competently.

So just remember, these are tools that still require the user to already have the actual knowledge of the many different parameters, exactly what it affects & how, which other parameters are affected by changing other parameter settings, etc. They require the know-how to tune/calibrate the powertrain, or to tune the engine correctly for mechanical modifications, etc.

The best thing to do is to check directly with the actual manufacturer of the product to get all the detailed accurate info (as I'm being rather generic here), and you'll need to be *very* specific as to exactly what platforms, model years, and engines they actually have the software tuning templates already built for. If you're just going to be looking at a screen of hex code with no template to tell you what's what, chances are you won't know what to do, especially in the 2001 & newer F-150's (including Lightnings, etc.). So you'll need to have pre-built templates that identify & show you every parameter, and allow you to have full adjustment range capability of each parameter. Then with that *and* with the actual knowledge required to use such a tool, you can do some nice work.

Good luck!
