Chip or Programmer for Supercharger???

Mike, or anyone who knows...I am thinking about getting the new Holley Thunder supercharger for my '02 5.4L and it says it comes with a computer chip. Should I use the chip that comes with it or could I get more from one of your chips or a programmer? Could I even use the programmer with this set up? Thanks.

Do you know if the chip that comes with it would be good anyways? That SC is kinda expensive so if it's a good chip, I may use it for a while. What do you think?

Hi Galaxy,

The Holley supercharger kit comes with a coupon for a custom-programmed Superchip, so that is already included with that particular supercharger kit.

You won't be able to use the #1715 Ford Truck & SUV Micro Tuner for any application requiring custom engine tuning for major modifications like a supercharger. For any custom engine tuning for major mods, you'll need to use the traditional Superchip module, and preferably in the 2-program Flip Chip so you'll have better protection & flexibility as well as maximum performance.

Do you have any opinions on the Holley...or other recommendations??

I originally like the holley because it's an eaton/roots type SC, looks GREAT, and intercooler, in-tank fuel pump, new throttle body, and chip (or coupon) is included all in one kit. I will however take opinions... Thanks.

Hi Galaxy,

I think the Holley Thunder is a *great* kit, and has all the benefits you stated. It's positive displacement and it's a pretty big blower at 144, so it can make nice power.

It is an expensive kit, perhaps the most expensive on the market, but there are reasons for that, as it includes the larger injectors & other components that other kits do not address or replace, and if they did, they'd be about the same price as the Holley.

You can't go wrong with that Holly kit, IMHO, as long as you can deal with it's expense. Holley had Superchips do their tuning R&D for that kit (as do most supercharger manufacturers), so it includes the custom tuned Superchip as well as the larger injectors so you can run at stock rail pressures without an FMU, etc.

Bottom line? If you can comfortably swing the price, go for it! And if not, then go with the Magnacharger (Allen Engineering) kit, which also uses a positive-displacement supercharger, the Eaton M90 and is priced very competitively.

If you want to go over this in more detail, just give us a call, & best of luck whatever you decide!

Mike,

I just obtained a used Holley Thunder kit, so I will need the chip that came with it reburned for my truck. Can you do the Holley custom program or do I need to go directly to Superchips for it? Any suggestions on making the kit better? I upgraded to this from a Powerdyne kit. I've got a fair deal of work to do before I get everything ready to put on, but I'm trying to get it all ready to do at once.

Thanks.

Hi du,

Sure, we can handle the tuning for you so you don't have to go direct to the manufacturer, and it'll be significantly cheaper that way, too.

Give us a call for all the details, OK?

Thanks, & congrats on your new blower!
