Question mike, how loud is it?

mike,

i am interested in getting one of the aftermarket magnaflow catbacks you recomend. But i am very concerned about how loud it will be. not how it will actually sound but how loud. I care about performance and a LOW decible level.

I had a gibson supertruck on my last rig (see sig) and it was too loud. i then ran the pipes out the back to quiet it out a little...which did help, but i don't think i would like to even have that decible level. my brother has a gibson swept side on his SCREW which sounded very mellow, but i have a feeling it was quieted down by the larger cab of the SCREW.

but anyways, how loud is it compared to a stock unit, as well as a gibson swept side? Would the SCREW vrs. my reg cab make any difference in this case?? just so i can compare.

thanks mike or anyone who can help.

Hi LBC,

Yep, I know exactly what you mean, and yes, I agree, the SuperTruck system is way too loud. It's strictly for those who want LOUD just for the sake of being LOUD, and who will tolerate the loss of low-end torque it causes, etc. Not a good choice, I agree.

The Gibson SweptSide system is much quieter, but also makes less raw power gain.

Sound level-wise, the Magnaflow is going to be noticeably quieter than the SuperTruck. If you take a look over on our web site at www.TroyerPerformance.com, you will see that we give a very thorough description of it's volume levels & sound qualities.

With the Magnaflow system, you will know a V8 is under the hood, unlike with the stock exhaust, but at idle & cruise, the volume level in side the cabin is very tolerable, and you can carry on a conversation in normal tones. Then when you nail the throttle, it will be a bit louder, but it's never "LOUD," and those who either like things quiet or who need to keep the family ride tolerable for the wife & kids, the Magnaflow is the ticket. And of course, you'll get a better result performance-wise with the Magnaflow as well.

Now this is the 3" Magnaflow system (#15609) we're talking about, not the soon-to-be-released SIDO Magnaflow system which is a bit louder than the 15609, though still not as loud as the Gibson SuperTruck system.

Also, the actual quality of materials & manufacturing quality is much higher with Magnaflow, they're all true aircraft-grade 16 GA. T304 stainless steel & warrantied for the life of the vehicle. And when comparing the stainless systems from both companies (Gibson makes aluminized and stainless, where Magnaflow offers only full stainless systems on these trucks), the Magnaflow stainless system is actually a bit less expensive than Gibson's stainless systems are, and you get Magnaflow's flow engineering.

Give us a call to go over this in more detail,
