Diablo Sport Chip
Hi SaHs14Ftball,
It's only the "same" as the Superchip in that it's a powertrain performance product, and that's about where the "sameness" ends.
Some of the Diablosport products do a pretty decent job & make their owners happy. We feel they are certainly better than the typical Hypertech, Jet, etc. fare, to be sure. So for example, if someone was contemplating between say, a Hypertech product, or a Jet product, or a Diablosport product, they would be better served by the Diablosport product among those 3 specific brands.
However, they don't compare favorably to the Superchips tuning, they don't make any more safe power (and in many cases, not as much safe power as Superchips), and do not compare favorably in terms of overall driveability. But then, you can't expect them to in all fairness, as they've only been in the performance chip business for a few years, where Superchips basically invented the performance chip industry about 20 years ago, so they have a lot more in-house R&D in their performance programs. Here at Troyer Performance, we have assisted in the testing & development of many of the Superchips F-150 platform performance programs, as we are the oldest Superchips distributor in America, & we specialize in the F-150 platform.
One important point for many people is the emissions status, and Diablosport chips & tuners are not CARB & EPA emissions approved for legal use on public roads in all 50 states as the Superchips products are.
We used to carry the Diablo line, and in our testing we found the Superchips programs to gain more power, aided performance better as well having a better overall driveability result. We prefer the Superchips adjustments to automatic transmission functions, for example (more linear progression in shift firmness levels & better downshift characteristics), and we see lower EGT's (exhaust gas temperatures) with the Superchips tuning (particularly with diesel applications).
What's the bottom line? You'd probably be happy with either the Diablosport or the Superchip, and enjoy either one.
To answer your question about "is it worth the money," a proper optimization of the powertrain program is the single best bang for the buck performance enhancement for these vehicles, as nothing else for the same or less cost will reduce acceleration times as much. Don't expect a chip or a tuner to suddenly turn a 2-3 ton truck into a tire-shredding monster of course, that won't happen. Optimizing the powertrain program is just the best bang for the buck performance enhancement, & thus where many people start with their performance modifications.
We feel the Superchips tuning delivers a better & more thorough optimization of the powertrain program, and in our testing the results were better with the Superchips tuning, so we use Superchips exclusively these days in our personal vehicles, and in our customer's vehicles.
If you'd like to go over any of this, or anything else performance-related about your F-150, please feel free to give us a call, our number is listed below.
I'm sure you'll be happy either way, & best of luck whatever you decide!
