Angry inspection in nj

I heard on the radio today that starting soon in nj that inspection stations will be pluging into the computer in our cars.

Will this be a problem if i upgrade to a chip?
thanks

Hi Flairside-Sal,

No problem at all, and this is very common by the way, within a couple of years, unfortunately, it looks like all the states will be doing the OBD-II plug-in test for emissions. (Instead, what they *should* be doing is also sniffing the tailpipe, to see just what each vehicle actually puts out into the atmosphere.)

Using a performance chip or tuner that is certified for emissions approval in all 50 states, as all of the Superchips products are, will not cause you to have any problems during any emissions inspection or test. The traditional Superchip modules and the Superchips Micro Tuner both have 50-state emissions approval, CARB & EPA. As long as your vehicle will pass emissions without the Superchip, it will pass emissions with the Superchip.

This "new" test is just where they simply plug in a code scanner and see if there are any emissions-related error codes, that's all. It's a poor test IMHO, and one we hate to see being used by itself and instead of tailpipe sniffing, as it tells you absolutely *nothing* about what's really being put into the atmosphere by each vehicle. Their theory is, as long as the OBD-II systems are functioning properly, then the vehicle *can't* be putting anything into the atmosphere that it shouldn't. Unfortunately, that's just not true, we've seen failed cats throw no code, so the vehicle "passes" while still potentially polluting the atmosphere.

We have long held the view that the ONLY thing that matters is what actually comes out of the tailpipes of each individual vehicle, because *that* is what this is all about. It's the actual air quality we have to breathe, it's air quality that these emissions systems are designed to improve, yet air quality is no longer being tested in those states adopting the new simplified OBD-II emissions test.

Sorry to go on at length, this is just one of my pet peeves.

The bottom line is, the Superchips tuning is 50-state emissions approved, so you won't have a problem using it. AS long as your vehicle passes emissions without the Superchips tuning, it will pass with the Superchips tuning, and you get that 50-state emissions certification statement inside with each Superchips product.

You can read all about the Superchips products in detail over at our web site, at www.TroyerPerformance.com - once the home page loads, click on "Shop," and then you will see the Superchips section. At that point, click on the link that says "List by Vehicle Type," and then select "FoMoCo Vehicles," so you don't have to wade thru the GM & Dodge stuff. You'll want to read up on all the details of Part#'s 1100, 1300 & 1715, those are the 3 different Superchips products that can be used on these Ford Trucks & SUV's with V6 & V8 gasoline engines.

Please feel free to give us a call as well, if you'd like to go over this, or anything else performance-related about your vehicle. Our phone number is listed just below.

Happy reading & good luck with your truck!

Hi Flareside

Not to worry. My 99 w/schip..no problem w/smog check. Both sniffed and last time done thru OBDII. If it passes w/out..it will pass w/schip.

That started here couple yrs. ago? They just plug in to data link.
However...tech. turned key on first and checked for trb. lights. Reason being if that light stays on..he would not do test. They may test same way where you live?

Actually my engine ran cleaner (emissions) w/schip. Interesting.
I also agree w/MT sniffing VS OBD check. Dont know much about it..just old technology VS new! Is new way better?

Good luck...OT
