Service Engine Soon Light-Flip Chip
Mike,
I sent my flip chip in to be reprogrammed for my new pickup. I installed it last week in my 2002 F150 5.4L and everything seemed fine. This morning, it took 3 tries to start my truck. When it did start, the "Service Engine Soon" light came on. Any ideas?

Hi Dave,
Connect a scan tool and retrieve the DTC's, that is *always* where you start diagnosis *ANY* time a check engine light is illuminated, retrieving the DTC's. Otherwise you have absolutely no idea what could be going on.
And the reality is, unless you already possess or have access to the tools, training & knowledge required to diagnose & repair your vehicle yourself, your best bet is to let someone who *is* qualified do so. Nobody on the Internet is going to be able to properly diagnose your vehicle sight unseen, with no diagnostics, etc. If you don't have a scan tool, go to your local AutoZone & they will scan for codes for you free!
The Superchip has nothing to do with your check engine light, by the way, unless you've not done the installation correctly and have ended up with a poor connection between the Superchip and the PCM, in which case you'll have to go back and do it correctly. It is possible that it's not installed correctly and is or has come partially loose, that could cause hard starting, but usually causes a complete failure to start and on rare occasions, sometimes a check engine light will come on from a poor connection between the Superchip & PCM. So check your installation work on the Superchip first. If you are a first-time installer of a Superchip, it's quite possible that you just don't have a good connection between the Superchip and the PCM, and thus need to re-do your installation correctly, making sure to tape the module to the PCM when completed. Check your documentation, as if you bought that Superchip directly from us here at Performance, you have detailed documentation telling you what to do to troubleshoot and how to get Tech Support, etc.
Good luck!
