Hi rickey76,

In the case of the 4.2 V6, either of those chips will work pretty well. I prefer the Superchip of course, go figure.

The Superchip is the only performance chip that has it all, meaning that it tunes each vehicle individually, according to it's exact PCM software revision, that tunes the engine on part-throttle as well as full-throttle so you have more power all the time, at any rpm or throttle position, and that is also still 50-state emissions certified, having both EPA & CARB approvals. Other chips have 1 or maybe 2 of these features, only the Superchip has all 3.

The maximum potential power gain on the 4.2 V6 is 25 HP & 31 lbs./ft. of torque (SAE flywheel), how much your particular vehicle will gain will depend on how much power it's making right now, your local fuel quality & altitude, etc., all the normal factors that affect exact power levels from one vehicle to the next, and one location to the next. In round numbers, think of it as roughly about a 10% power gainer.

The Superchip will also improve the one problem that all these 4.2 V6's have, which is being inherently weak below 2500 rpm, so you'll notice that overall driveability is improved as well. You'll notice, for example, that you'll be able to slip the clutch a little bit less less to get moving, etc.

By the way, we carry everything performance-related for these trucks, for example, since yours is a 5-speed, you might want to know about the new Hurst Billet/Plus shifters that are finally out for the F-150 manuals now, which will reduce your shift throw by 30%, That's just a casual tip, there are all kinds of things you can do to your 4.2 V6 to wake it up & make it run with the V8's, depending on just how far you want to take it.

You can read all about the Superchip and other performance parts for your 4.2 V6 F-150 on our web site, drop by www.TroyerPerformance.com - then click on "Shop," and there you will see the individual product sections, like Intake, Exhaust, Superchips, etc. that you can browse & read about. We give very thorough part descriptions, etc. You'll want to use the "List by Vehicle Type" feature when going into each section, so you don't have to scroll thru the all the GM & Mopar truck parts, and can get to just the FoMoCo applications.

And of course, please feel free to give us a call if you'd like to go over this or anything else performance-related about your truck, our number is listed just below & we're happy to help.

Best of luck whatever you decide!
