Intermittent Interference
Intermittent Interference
I am sure I saw this discussed somewhere but I cannot find it.
Problem at hand is as follows:
I have a two position Superchip in my 2002 Lincoln Blackwood. That thing is killer and just as in my 1999 Lightning has brought about a totally new driving experience.
In the L, I lost power completely maybe 4-5 times and each time it was a very slightly loose chip which was easily fixed. Note power loss was complete, truck was dead, no fire , no power.
With the Wood, I have "lost power" momentarily about 6-8 times and the chip is only in the truck about 2 months max and seems tight. Now the interesting part is it happened in the same spot, actually two different places but within 50 feet of the same spot on the road about three times each place. The engine starts to die, I hit the gas a couple of times, it sputters for a second and then catches on again and everything is fine.
I am curious if anyone has had a similar situation and if it could be some sort of electrical interference associated with the two locations where this occurs. I own a business and travel the same route twice a day five days a week. The only common link I can think of regarding the two locations is that there is heavy construction going on at both, lots of graders etc. lots of two way phones being used and so on. I am going to check today to see if there are any transmission towers (cable/phone/whatever) or any other obvious possible sources of interference.
Any help, advice, similar experiences would be appreciated.
Bill

Hi Bill,
Interesting quandary. Lacking any gear to actually check EMI, RFE, etc. in that area, you might want to try to see if shielding the twisted pair wiring that leads from the module to the flip switch, just to see if that has any effect on the symptoms you observe when driving in that area. You can use anything as a quickie test, aluminum foil, insulated sheathing, etc.
We've never had another instance or report of a similar type of symptom/complaint that I can recall, just to let you know, so this is a bit of an odd one.
Good luck & let us know what happens!
