received e-fans/pullies today! 3 questions
I received my order from Mike @ Performance Products today and just got done reading through the directions. They were the most thorough directions I've ever read. Great job Mike. But I still have a couple questions.
First question is about putting the temp. probes in the radiator. It says, "It's also a good idea to use a little RTV (silicone) on the probe to provide the most secure attachment to the radiator fins." My question is do I put the silicone on the whole probe or just on the ends? I just don't want to do it wrong and then have the probe reading the temp wrong.
Second question is basicly about calibrating the turn-on temps. The whole manual was very easy to understand until I got to this point. There really wasn't step-by-step directions on how to calibrate the turn-on temps, but rather a bunch of "notes." I know your supposed to stagger the temps and all that, but like I said, just am not clear on the actual steps. What I gathered is that you start the truck and keep on reading the temperature until the coolant reaches 202-205 degrees. At this point, you turn the set-screw until the fan turns on?? Then you do the same with the other fan at 8-10 degrees above the first. Is that basicly it? Why does it say that "the vehicle will have to come up to temp and be cooled back down a bit several times during the process of calibrating the turn-on temps of each fan."?
My last question is about the pullies. In the instructions, it says you need an impact wrench to remove the harmonic balancer bolt. Is this true. In all the past posts I read, this was not mentioned.
Thanks everybody for the help. Sorry if I seem so ****.

jlaird,
You can use silicone on the ends.
The reason for the cool down is to insure the temps are set correctly. I did the 2nd probe temp by disconnecting the first. The truck warmed up faster. It was cold outside and I did not want to wait forever for the rad to get hot enough to trigger the 2nd probe with one fan already cooling down the rad.
Crank pulley;
You could jam something in the pulley to keep it from turning and use a braker bar. The impact gun just makes it easier.

Hi Josh!
Just so you'll know, the way to get Tech Support on our products (as our documentation points out) is to call us. Even if it's over the weekend, you can always call us & leave a message for Tech Support. We will return that call as soon as possible, you won't have to wait until Monday when the office here is open. Many people do their installations over the weekend of course, so we're happy to call them back & get them the info they need over the weekend, no problem!
It's also against the rules of F-150 Online for vendors to provide Tech Support here, which is another reason why we say in our documentation to please call us for Tech Support.
Now in this case, JMC knows this kit very well, and he also has a lot of good general automotive knowledge & experience working under the hood (and everywhere else on these vehicles!), so he kindly provided some very good advice.
Our docs describe in detail how to set the turn-on temps based on which method of measuring temperature you choose and what temperature of thermostat you have. You also have the precise detailed layout of the controller, showing you the temperature adjustment screw & how to adjust it. If you're not sure of anything there, or would just like to ask questions, etc., please give us a call for Tech Support & we'll be happy to help you & go over everything in detail, etc.
Good luck & talk to you soon!
