Unhappy FIPK Question

Living in MN we have some very unusual climate and weather changes. Take for instance this week 90 on Mon & 35 and icy on Wed??? Having an open filter with an FIPK, will these be affected by changing conditions, cold temps, snow & rain in the summmer? Are there chances of snow & rain ingestion through the filter more so than with the stock set up? Will wreck it anything?

Thanks for any advice

By the way this would be going on a '01 off-road Screw with the 5.4.

Hi sxmax,

I've had a FIPK installed in my 02 since new, and I've never had any problems whatsoever.
No check engine lights, no performance problems, you will be fine.
We also have some hard winters up here, so I know what you mean.

I think your good to go, hope this helps.

I play off road with my exposed K&N and it is not a problem. You just have to wash it more often to keep it clean.

I had my FIPK replaced a while back when my front end was smashed (suicidal tree in a winter storm). The body shop did an excellent job putting the truck back together, and when I installed the new K&N FIPK, no leaks or anything. It's been re-installed for months, now.

Hi sxmax,

You have nothing to worry about there, as your engine has an IAT (inlet air temperature) sensor, and the PCM commands different operational parameters based on that, as well as many other things such as engine coolant temperature, automatic transmission fluid temperature, etc.

The factory air intake tract is very restrictive and doesn't need to be. As you can see in Habibi's post, his truck is wearing the best intake kit, which is the Air Force One (FIPK is actually K&N's name for their intake kit). That AF1 intake is *beautiful* under the hood, that's a very nice picture Habibi took.

Now if you were using an aftermarket hood with open air scoops, etc., *then* you might potentially have an issue in the rain with water getting onto the air filter element, but even that is easily cured.

The bottom line is you'll be fine with an intake kit in any weather with the stock factory hood!

Hi Mike,

I just stumbled onto your reply, and it got me thinking about what you said.
I'm having a Cervini ram air hood installed tomorrow.
What do you suggest I do as far as the rain and moisture getting inside?
I need an easy fix!

Thanks
Habibi

Mike,

DO you by any chance sell those AF1 filters separately?

I have had no problems driving in single degree temps and driving in 110 degree temps. You will like the fipk, mainy for the sound it produces.

Hi 03,

Yes, we sure do. We carry all the drop-in air filters for factory intakes as well as carrying all the replacement air filters for all the various Air Force One intake kits!
