Microtuner

Can I buy the microtuner and just use it to firm up shifts and correct my speedo? Basically not use the "performance program, so I do not have to use premium gas while it costs so much.

What's up btolenti we are in the same are. since you don't want to use the performance features of a Microtuner you have two other choices. Not sure what year your truck is so these things may not be avaiable for it but here they are:

1.) B&M makes a electronic shift improver called Shiftplus Electronic Shift improver and you can find it at www.jegs.com and maybe www.truckperformance.com

2.) You can get an actaul shift kit that replces some parts in the transmission valve body made by either TRANSGO or B&M you can also buy them at both of the previous places then have it installed by a local tranny shop You may even want to check with Jim Dandy Transmission in Vacaville they may have the it or call some of the other tranny shops in the vacaville area there are sevral that advertise in the yellow pages that do shift kits

Yep it was a secret government operation back then,

Richard D.

The reason it say's that is because I along with JMC and some others joined this site when there where no message boards but it was called the F150 Digest which was a kind of everyone posted there question then once a certain amount of questions and answers were posted you would get one big e mail with all the info in it. Or you could have each question sent to your email as they were posted. This was back when the site first got started up back in 1996 i think it was. So anyone that belonged back then got a 1969 memebr since date beczasue of how the software works I think

Hi btolenti, etc.,

This is another topic that's been covered numerous times before, it's a good idea to check the search feature for info on basic questions first, as chances are just about any question that comes up has already been asked & answered hundreds of times before here. Just FYI........

OK, on to your question.............

No, you can't do that. To get *any* of the Micro Tuner's benefits for shifting, you also have to accept the engine tuning. You can't not take the engine tuning and still get *anything* else, it's a *performance* part.

One quick point here, please be wary of *ANY* device such as the B&M electronic shift improver, as they aren't good for the transmission. What that B&M piece does is simply spices into the PCM's wiring harness to spike the voltage signal going to the shift solenoids, which are a somewhat weak design to begin with, and are constantly bathed in hot transmission fluid. In fact, in the B&M documentation for that piece it *warns* you not to use it on it's highest setting for prolonged periods. I would never install that part on any vehicle I cared about, it's not good for the transmission to hammer the solenoids harder, that's a very cheap and poor way to firm up shifts. Which is why that device costs all of about $40. Skip it is our advice.

If you want to firm up your shifts but not use premium gas, you can have us make a traditional Superchip module for you for use on 87 octane instead of premium. That way you'll still get some power gain (5-8 HP), and you'll have all the other benefits as well, delays & retards removed, TS limiter removed, and the shifts improved, firmer quicker & with less slippage. Or, we can provide you with a proper shift kit, like the Transgo kit.

Whatever you do, we advise *not* using the B&M shift improver or any similar device.

Best of luck whatever you decide, & feel free to give us a call to go over any of this in more detail.

Good info I myself was not using the B&M and did not know much about it other than it was out ther for sale and I think a few people oon here use it that is why i suggected it I personally would go the shift kit route whcih in fact is what I have done. And although I do have aqSupechip I currently do not have it installed due to the gas prices Premium is the 3.00 per galon here so forget it.
