Question Loaded Microtuner/ Shifting Question

I loaded the Microtuner program, and have a quick question.

I have heard sometimes the belt will slip, and a good fix is the Goodyear Gatorback.

At WOT shift points, I hear a quick noise, but it doesn't sound like a belt squeak or chirp, it sounds more like fluid squeezing past a valve in the tranny before the shift is complete. It almost sounds like a PSSST, if that makes any sense. Could this be the belt, or is it a fluid issue maybe?

Other than that, I can already tell a big difference.

My 02 5.4 Screw does the same thing, and it's totally stock. At WOT upshifts, there's a little sound right before it shifts, just like you described. My 00 5.4 did the same too. I have no idea what it is, never had a tranny problem though.

Thanks for the reply,

Funny thing is, I never floored the truck off the line when running the stock program, so I don't know if it did it before, and I am not sure exactly how much faster the truck is with the program loaded.

I do know it IS quicker, and it shifts MUCH better.

I'm sure it will also get better after I put more miles on her. i also plan on getting exhaust in the near future, and maybe electric fans down the road.

Hi Guys,

This is most likely the infamous "belt shreak" which people ascribe to different things, but it's almost invariably the cheap factory serpentine belt slipping on the pulleys at heavy throttle. This is why you generally hear it only during a heavy-throttle upshift, for example. This also happens on some of these F-150's even in bone-stock trim, as we see in this thread.

This usually happens when you install the Superchips tuning because of the much quicker shift reducing slippage during heavy throttle, and is easily cured with the installation of a Goodyear Gatorback serpentine belt. We use them on all our vehicles as do many other Superchip owners, and that eliminates the belt shreak.

We also carry the Gatorback serpentine belts in stock, and they're actually cheaper than the factory serpentine belt as well as being much better quality.

Thanks Mike,

I'll try that and see if it helps.

Well, Mike was right.

I just changed to the Goodyear Gatorback belt, and the noise has disappeared.

Even though I knew of the slippage issues, I still would have never thought the sound I was hearing was the belt.

Thanks guys
