Mr. Troyer.. A question for you.

I have a 2003 SuperCrew with a 5.4 . I'll use it on weekends to tow a car trailer weighing about 5000# loaded. Only traveling 15 miles each way. The rest of the time it is a daily driver with about 75 % highway and 25% city driving. I dont hot rod my truck under normal driving. I just want the extra power for the towing . Do you reccommend the Flip Chip, Microtuner, or the SuperChip ?

Thanks

Racer47 may I ?

I installed a Superchip in my 2001 Supercrew (got it from Mike T)
when it had 15000 miles on it, and it now has 57000 miles on it.
I pull a trailer with my Lightning on it, and the Superchip has helped considerably if you ask me. Mine is also a daily driver.
The shift points are much better and crisper. As a matter of fact I just changed the fluid and filter in my SCrews tranny last weekend and my buddy who owns the tranny shop could not believe how clean the pan was. Absolutely no shavings or discoloeration.
I do "hot rod" my SCrew, and have installed an after market air intake and have dual flowmasters on it which has enabled the chip to give me "full power gains".
I believe that you will be amazed at the power gains if you decide to chip your truck.

Hi Racer47,

Well, that really depends on your budget & how much installation work you want to do.

In your case, it sounds like you're not doing more involved engine mods that will require custom engine tuning (like a blower, nitrous, ported heads, larger injectors, aftermarket MAF, etc.), so the easiest installaiton and the best value for features would be the Micro Tuner. That gives you an OBD-II code scanner, the ability to recalibrate the speedometer on 1999 & newer F-150s for gear changes & tire size changes, and you can even set your own WOT upshift points & firmness level if you do other changes that require those kinds of adjustments.

The absolute *cheapest* way to go would be the single program Superchip, which will take about 30-40 minutes for a first-timer to install.

If you want to have the ability to ever run 87 octane, then the 2-program dual octane Flip CHip would be the way to go, as you would have a performance program for 87 octane as well as our normal tuning for premium gas, both available at the flip of it's toggle switch. You won't see much power gain on 87 octane of course, but it will be better than stock and would give you the ability to always have a better program to use with *any* octane level, whereas all other Superchips products are going to require the use of premium gas, of course, and get the full power gain.

If this were my decision, I'd choose the Micro Tuner as it's so easy to install & use, and it has so many features. I think it's a choice between the Micro Tuner and the dual octane Flip Chip personally, so if you want the ability to use 87 octane, go with the dual octane Flip Chip, otherwise, just use the Micro Tuner.

If you don't care about features or being able to use 87 octane, and just want the cheapest way to get into the additional power of Superchips tuning, then you can just go with the least expensive unit, which would be the single program Superchip. That will get you all the power gain and work just fine at a low cost, without the additional frills & features.

I can only tell you what I think, and based on what you describe, I think it's a choice between the Micro Tuner's ease of use and features versus the Flip Chip's dual octane capability to decide between, with the Micro Tuner probably winning out.

Feel free to give us a call to go over any of this in more detail, etc., we'll be happy to!
