Question for Mike, anyone ASAP
Question for Mike, anyone ASAP
I got my Stage-1 today, thanks for the help in placing my order to Mike's wife while Mike was in Florida. I talked to Mike Troyer briefly by e-mail before he left and I believe he advised me to go with the Magnaflow single-in single-out which I understood would save me quite a bit of money. This afternoon I went to a local muffler shop and made an appointment for tomorrow morning. The guy there said he was surprised that I didn't go with
the SI/DO as that's what most guys do.
My question is, could I go with SI/DO on my 2001 F150 5.4L?
Would it give me better performance and sound? I just I hope I understood Mike's recommendation in my e-mail.
By the way, I got the Airforce one on, it was a lot easier than I expected.
I'm going to study my Microtuner manual very thoroughly before I get to that, I'm a little nervous about doing it. My daughter's boyfriend told me the other day I shouldn't have bought one, "they will screw up your tranny". Sorry about the long post, first timer. Ken

Mike T won't steer you wrong in truck mods. You'll enjoy everything you got.
Hi Ken,
Thanks very much for calling, it was a pleasure to finally get a chance to speak with you at length!
You'll get the best results with the Magnaflow setup you've got there, doing a single in dual out won't get you any better result, nor does it get as good a result in our experience. The 3" single system you have in that Magnaflow will flow enough raw cfm to easily support 400+ hp, a figure you'll never hit unless you do *many* additional modifications, including a supercharger. The bottom line is, that Magnaflow system will get you the best results in terms of both part-throttle torque and raw peak horsepower, that's why we use it.
With regard to your daughter's boyfriend's comments about the Micro Tuner, I have to agree with other responses in that given the long & clear pattern of no such problems among the many thousands of people across the country & many here using these calibrations, I doubt he actually has any experience with Superchips transmission programming in these F-150's. You don't see any pattern of posts here from the many people using the Superchips tuning having any such problems. With as many people as are using it here and that have been for the entire time that automatic transmissions have been computer controlled (about a decade now), you couldn't ask for a better track record. We certainly use it in all our vehicles and have for the 10 or so years that automatics have been computer controlled, with no problems in any of our vehicles.
It's easy for people to claim things, but when you peel back the layers, you don't find our parts being the source of damage among those claims from people at a muffler shop or a daughter's boyfriend, etc. We test virtually everything we sell in these mechanical modifications & performance parts, and we use these same parts on our own vehicles, we don't sell anything we wouldn't use ourselves.
You can rest easy, nothing you're doing to that truck in our Stage 1 kit is going to reduce the service life or compromise basic reliability of your truck. If it did, these message boards would be full of those kinds of posts, and you don't see that, because it doesn't happen. Have fun getting your new performance parts installed, & talk to you soon!

Thanks Mike and the others who responded. I hope you understood my concerns, being fairly new and unexperienced
with these mods. You more than ressured me of my concerns and I am looking forward to using my supertuner today or tomorrow which will complete my stage-1 install. I am more than happy with my purchase and look forward to doing business in the future.
Mike, the Magnaflow sounds great, looks great and feels great.
Thanks again, Ken.
