Chip needed for a 7700 series?
Being a newby I hope I'm not wasting time. I own a 2000 F150 7700 series Lariet with Full Towing package. I just purchased a 24' boat with a weight of 4,800 lbs, with being so close to my max towing cap. will a Superchip help and if so what else would you recommend?
Thanks,
John Koerber

Hi John Welcome!
Whats your drive train...engine/tranny/rear axle ratio etc?
4800# boat wt....does that include trailer? Is that accurate?
Lots of info. here...also try tow/haul bd. Meantime update when you can. You'll get replies. What makes you think you need schip?
Good luck...OT

Told I was a newbe
Anyway's my Engine is a 5.4 L with Automatic Transmission w/ Overdrive. Rear end is a 3.75 limited slip. The 4800 lbs includes both the boat & trailer, I was told that the chip along with a few other items was the least expensive route in increasing H/P and performance when towing. Hope this helps and doesn't confuse anyone more than I am.

Hi John
Have you tried towing your load yet? Hills, flat etc.
If not, you might want to try that. Then you'll know if you need more power etc. Also if your truck not 4X4 that could be a plus..meaning less parts..less wt.
Yes, least $$$....schip/exhaust/intake. Lots posted here on these proven mods. Your the only one that knows for sure how your truck handles/pulls loads. So...keep reading...asking.

a chip, FIPK intake, and good exhaust would free up alot of power out of that potent 5.4. And with your 3.73 rear end your truck would be even more badass.
Chip--$225
FIPK-$220
exhaust- $250-500

Hi John,
Yes, the Superchips tuning will definitely help, optimizing the powertrain programming is generally the single best bang for the buck mod.
The Top 3 mods to do are the Superchips tuning, then opening up the intake and the exhaust. Now on the exhaust you have to be *very* careful and stay away from all the cheap stuff, as almost all systems will actually *reduce* torque below 3000 rpm, the last thing you want or need in these vehicles, especially when towing.
Many people elect to go with our Stage 1 kit, as that consists of the Superchips tuning, the Air Force One intake kit, and the Magnaflow cat-back system at a great total delivered price. Each part is the best of it's kind in each area, and will maximize results. You will have noticeably more horsepower and torque all the time, at any throtle position or rpm, and most people also see some fuel mileage improvement as well.
You can also do these things one at a time, and there are plenty more things you can do for even more power & fuel mileage, like our electric fan kit & underdrive pulleys combo, for example.
Give us a call when you get a chance & we can go over all of this with you in proper detail, go over the exact costs, what the results will be, etc.
