And another question for Mike Troyer
And another question for Mike Troyer
Mike,
Before I even get started, thanks for all of the time you devote to this board. My question is that I have a 1999 4.6 manual, and for some reason I can't get the 1715 to re-calibrate the tire height. My tire height is 28.95 and I have surrounded that height with about 8 different settings, and no matter which tire setting is used I still have a 10% speedometer error. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Greg

Hi Greg,
Hmm, that's an odd one, so far we haven't had anyone have that happen, so I guess you have the distinction of being the first (at least, that I am aware of).
The ability to recalibrate the speedo in the PCM starts with the 1999 model year, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Now of course, you have to plug in the tire height in the number of inches, and it's in 1/4" resolution, so you should just plug in 29.0 inches in your case, as you already know I'm sure, so again, that shouldn't have anything to do with your problem.
I don't know what you are using to check your speedo accuracy (police radar, access to another vehicle with a *known* accurate speedo to compare to, etc), but if you are confident that it's not correcting your speedo, then a call to Superchips directly is in order for them to take a look at this for you. They will have to make a change if one is needed, so the quickest way to get this handled is to call them directly at the number they list for Tech Support. If it was purchased from us (and I have no way of knowing that sitting here in Florida for our 2003 Lightning R&D sessions, forgive me!) then we can get an RMA number for you so the manufacture can check that out, but you'd still need to call us & this will add more time to the whole process, so I'd suggest calling the manufacturer directly on this as the quickest way to get this checked out.
I would be curious to hear what happens on this, if you wouldn't mind maybe shooting us an email to let us know?
