Question about 1715 tuners

I have a 2003 f150 4x4 5.4L and would like to know if you change the programing (from stock to the tuners) and then do a mod like put a flowmaster exhaust (17222) on it do you need to reprogram or will it adjust itself ?

je3169,

Disconnect the battery neg cable
Turn on the headlight switch
Let sit for 15 or 20 min
Turn off the headlight switch.
Connect Battery neg
Start truck let idle for 15 min ( you will ear surging during this ).
Take for a 15 min cycle, and drive it like you mean it, running WOT into 3rd gear, drive at 60 + mph for a while, off on to some side streets for stop and go, getting on it when taking off.

The first 6 lines are to clear the adaptive learning process from the stock system and start a base re-learnign process, the last part is to get the adaptive learning process going in the right direction. I read the last process in this forum awhile back, and have always stuck with it, so it may or may not be "out of favor" now and considered old school, but if something works, stick with it
This is the only programming you need to clear out is what the PCM has learned from driving it with the stock part on ( same goes for FIPK installs ). The other programming parts for the MicroTuner as the same.

Good luck, and enjoy the new system.
Steve

Hi JE,

You can go thru the procedure of clearing the PCm when you put on the exhaust, but with that particular mod, in reality, you really won't see anything more from doing that. I do tend to clear the PCM even after simple mods like an intake or an exhaust sometimes, and most people do like to clear the PCM after *any* change to clear adaptive strategy adjustments & let the PCM relearn with the new mechanical configuration.

You can either do it or not, it's not required, but many people will.

Long-term, it won't make a bit of difference whether you do that or not for an exhaust, that's really a short-term thing.

Good luck!

Hi John,

Yes, the Micro Tuners we are currently shipping here at Performance do have the LGA1 & LGA 2 codes already built in for the 2003 F-150's, so you're in good shape for your code.
