Just another question for Mike Troyer?
Just another question for Mike Troyer?
I just installed the Denso plugs gapped at 50 along with the Accel wires and coil packs took less then 2 hours along with the install of the Air Force 1 Kit. Very pleased with the products so far for the exception of the whistling of what I think is the cold air kit! Is there a remedy for this? Soon yet to install the fan kit and pullies. Probably could have did the install faster but I took my time carefully gapping the plugs and securing the wires so that no cross fire will occur. Sometimes I'm a pain in the but about a clean under the hood appereance!
Thanks I did'nt know Mike was away! No fix for the whistle? What causes it to whistle anyway? And I just noticed that some times it makes a horn or growl like sound only at idle but comes and goes. I re-installed the stock setup just to see if still does it and it will not. I also used my Auto-X-Ray scanner and did not find anything wrong. So the whistle I can live with but what the heck is that other noise? Any info? By the way thanks for letting me know Mikes away! Jesse
Hi Jesse,
That whistle generally comes from using a throttle body spacer in conjunction with *any* intake kit, you'll always get a whistle. If you have a throttle body spacer on there, take it off, it's a paperweight, and the whistle will go away.
Good luck!

Hey Mike! Thanks for getting back to me I know your away and the whistle sound I can live with. I have no TB Spacer! But recently I've started hearing this moan like sound coming from the intake. It sounds like a quiet air horn but only does it sometimes when in reverse and while stopped at traffic lights. It does go away as soon as I touch the gas pedal! I called to speak to you and forgot about you being away, so one of your sales person told me to call AF1 hotline cause it may be an install problem! Any info on this will be helpfull. P.S. those coil packs, wires, plugs made a big difference compared to the stock components that were there! Mike thanks again for the help on getting me the right parts for my truck. Greatly appreciated! I posted that link with the great photos of a users dual fan kit install. Just look back in one of our recent threads you'll see it. Keep this one! LOL. Talk to you soon. Jesse
Here's that link so you don't have to search for it like had to!https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...&threadid=88718
Hi Jesse,
That sounds like the normal "intake moan" that you'll get with any intake kit. You'll notice it's only heard when you are under a load and/or giving it some throttle, you don't hear that at idle or no load/light load, just when there is some demand on the motor. It's just the sound of air rushing in under much lower restriction, this is not an installation problem at all, from the sound of it.
When you nail the throttle hard, it will sound almost like when you wuold open up the secondaries on a 4-bbl. carb. This is perrfectly normal.
Congrats on finding that link & thanks a million for posting it!
