Looking into a Diablo Chip
I have a 2000 F150 super cab. I have a the 4.2l V6 with a K&N and and 3 in. exhaust from the cat back with a Flowmaster. I am looking into getting a Diablo chip for my truck and I have a couple questions.
1. If I get this chip will it turn off the DAMN speed limiter?
2. Will it raise the rev limiter any?
3. What kind of gains can I expect from the different chips that they manufacture?
4. Are there any negative aspects to installing one of these chips?
5. What else can I do to my truck that will give me a little more performance out of my little beast?
Thanks in advance for any info.

Downhillin,
Most folks here go with Superchip over Diablo. If there are not any responses it's because folks probablty are unfamiliar with the product.
I have the 4.6L and use the MicroTuner. Most folks with the 4.2L get the standard Superchip. It's been proven to give the most performance gain for your application.
Give Mike Troyer a call and pick his brain on what will work best for you.

Hi downhillin 1,
First, just as a general tip since you're new to this web site, I wouldn't expect instant or even "quick" responses here, as this is a public enthusiast web site on the Internet. In other words, it's help provided by other members for other members, all being part of the same helpful F-150 community, so we all try to help our fellow F-150 owners as best we can in our spare time. Just a little tip FYI...........
There are better powertrain programs than Diablo, readily available in the Superchip. We know all of the commercially available powertrain programming products very well as F-150 performance specialists, and we used to carry Diablo in addition to the Superchips product line for some time.
We found the Superchip to be a superior product, as Superchips has done far more R&D in these vehicles than any other chipmaker. And here at Performance we've provided the tuning for more F-150's than any other Ford truck performance specialty company in America. We work directly with Superchips helping to define & refine various aspects of the powertrain programming to get the best possible optimization of the PCM's programming/powertrain tuning, for best safe & reliable performance.
The Superchip is also the *only* performance chip available that tunes each vehicle individually according to it's exact PCM revision, that tunes for maximum HP & torque all the time at any throttle positon and any rpm, and that is also 50-state emissions certified. No other chipmaker offers all of that, only Superchips has it all.
To answer your questions................
1.) Yes, the Superchip will remove the top speed limiter.
2.) Yes, we do raise the rev limiter but not by a lot, just a few hundred rpm usually. Now if we have a highly custom situation with engine modifications that have actually extended the engine's safe redline, then sure, we'll set the rev limiter wherever the customer wants it. Rev limiters and top speed limiters are of course completely separate things, different functions. Full-throttle upshift points in the automatics are also a completely separate function.
3.) The maximum potential power gain on a 4.2 V6 F-150 with a stock engine from performance tuning is 25 HP & 31 lbs./ft. of torque. We also take care of the 4.2 V6's problem with being weak below 2500 rpm, so it's a nice improvement to overall driveability as well as all-out performance.
4.) Not for anyone looking for more performance. They don't shorten the lifespan of anything on the vehicle, or cause more wear & tear, etc. About the only "downside," if you can call it that, is the fact that you will have to use premium gasoline of at least 91 octane with any performance chip, as that is how the power is gained, by retuning the engine specifically for the use of good qualty fuel.
5.) Ahh, this is where you'll really smile, as there are TONS of things we can do to raise power in your V6 truck! We can take that vehicle literally just as far as you want to go, performance-wise. We have supercharged 4.2 V6's cutting 12 second 1/4 miles, and we have mild daily drivers & tow vehicles, and everything in between. There are intakes, exhausts, underdrive pulleys, electric fan kits, headers, larger MAF's & TB, superchargers, ported heads, camshafts, and the list literally goes on and on. The only limit to how much power we can add to your 4.2 V6 is basically whatever you can afford, and what will be practical for how you will be using your vehicle.
The best thing to do would be to give us a call so we can spend some time with you going over all the various modifications available, options, details, results, costs, etc., as well as what you want to get out of the vehicle performance-wise and how you need to be able to use it (drag racing, towing, or whatever you need to do), etc.
Our contact info is just below for your convenience, give us a call & we'll be happy to help you with this. Don't worry, there's *plenty* that can be done to your 4.2 V6 to improve it's performance!
We look forward to speaking with you,
