Question Micro Tuner ???

I just installed the Superchip 1715 micro tuner and Boy O Boy I am very impressed with it. My question is on the default setting (Superchips Default setting) does it raise the speed limiter on that setting? The highest I was able to run before was 100mph and now it seems to hit the speed limiter at about 105+. Not sure if my speedometer is off now but I dought it still the same RPMS at the highway speed of 75 but what do I know that is why this question.

Hi AZ,

Yes, the top speed limiter is automatically raised, and actually, it's effectively removed (depending on the code, it may either actually be removed from the lines of code or just raised so high that the vehicle will never be able to hit it, like 180 mph, etc.), so that the only limitation is just how much power you have available to push that big hulking brute thru the air at triple-digit speeds.

Late-model F-150's will very rarely ever be able to achieve their highest possible top speed in Overdrive unless you've got a supercharger and/or 4.10 gears & a lot of additional modifications, something to get you up to at least 325+ HP. Otherwise you'll actually hit your highest top speed 1 gear down from Overdrive, so do your top speed runs in 3rd gear in the automatics (just push the Overdrive switch on the end of the shift level off), and in 4th gear in the 5-speed manuals. These trucks just have way too much aero drag to overcome to be able to hit top speed in Overdrive in most cases.

Also, don't forget that the factory tires are *not* capable of sustaining triple-digit speeds safely, so make sure your tires have been upgraded if you plan to exceed 100 mph, please!

Your original factory top speed limiter was 98 mph in that truck, just to give you an idea, which looks about like 100 mph or so on the speedometer. That's right where it stops reading, too, so after 100 mph you have no idea how fast you're going as the speedometer isn't marked & can't register it.

You can determine your speed above 100 mph by switching the trip odometer (this is for 1999 & up F-150's only) over into test gauge mode. One of those test display digital gauges that the digital odo will read out is a digital speedometer, so you can see just how far over 100 mph you can actually go.

Have fun & please be careful!
