What Would You Do?
Want to get the Forum's opinion on both sides of a recent purchase I made from another member. Not going to blast him, but like many users of the forum we expect a certain kind of "brotherhood" when dealing with one another.
I purcahsed a set of used LED tails from another member. During the transaction I sent the following pm, "Just to confirm none of the LED's are burned out, both lens are in perfect shape, no scratches, nicks, dings, etc... No moisture or fog issues inside the lens. These are in brand new condition"
His reply, "The lights are in excellent condition and when I removed them on Thursday from the truck everything worked and there was no LED's burnt out on the taillights as well as the reverse lights. You can see from the pictures that all the LED's are working and that the lights are in excellent condition. Please understand that they are not brand new out of the box but they are in excellent/like new shape in my opinion and are being sold as is so if they happen to go bad in a month or two or an LED burns out in the first weeks lets say they are not under warranty obviously as Recon only offers a 90 day warranty on them when you buy them new and since that is past there is not much I can do except be honest with you on their condition and that they were functioning and working properly when they were removed. I have not heard of many problems with Recon's lights but I know that with LED's you are taking a risk of having the lights burning out at any time just like a regular halogen bulb even though LED's are suppose to last longer than regular bulbs. "
So I get them an low and behold one LED is indeed not working. Mind you this is straight out of the box. I didn't have these on for a few days or even a few minutes. The second I tested the lights an LED did not turn on. I have a hard time believing that an LED just happen to burn out after he pulled them off or in shipping, he shipped the lights in the original Recon boxes, so packing was top notch. He also is trying to stand behind the picture that he posted of the lights working, which have no date/time stamp.
The way I see it guy knew an LED was toast and that is why he went into this ellaborate explanation that the LEDs were not covered by Recon warranty and if one went out in a week or a month, blah, blah, blah...
I informed the seller that a LED was not working and that I wanted to return them for a full refund since I specifically asked if all LEDs worked and he said Yes. Im sure everyone knows that he told me he no and even tried to say that I might have hooked up the lights wrong?! Really? It's plug and play.
So my question is should I blast this guy for not standing behind an item that he described as 100% working or just walk away out almost $300?

I was in a similar situation a while ago. Get with the moderators about putting the seller on blast - they (Bluejay and Rockpick) helped me when I was going thru the same. You don't want to condone an internet squabble where nobody wins and risk being kicked off the forum. My .02. - Og
sounds like there should me some middle ground where he refunds part of your money maybe $50-$100. If he could do that would that make you happy? Also it does sound kind of fishy how he worded his reply to you and how he emphasized I quote "they were functioning and working properly when they were removed" They were? Kind of weird that he didn't say they are functioning properly.

Partial refund.... hmmm not sure about that. Maybe if the seller gave me that option at the beginning instead of saying tough luck. But I agree, everything points to the fact that he knew they were not working and shafted me. It's in Paypals hands now. Filed a complaint, hopefully they rule in my favor. Not sure what I would do with these as I am not going to install them with a non functioning LED.

Just heard back from Paypal, they have ruled in my favor (as they should have) full refund should be coming my way. Sucks that I am out shipping but it's way better than the alternative.
So now that it's resolved where can I get a RELIABLE set of LED tail lights? Obviously not going to go with Recon if they have LEDs fail after only a year or so.
