Swirls, Clear Failure, and everything else

Go check this thread out for information about identifying swirls, pictures of clear failure, and how to take great pictures!

It is too hard to re-post threads here w/ lots of pictures so you can go read it there. You can post questions and comments on this thread though if you don't have an account over there.

Was that information helpful to anyone?

Question New paint

Have a new truck - black. Dealer did a permashine treatment and I don't think he washed it first ( I had the truck fairly clean ) so I suppossed he thought it looked clean enough and went ahead. ( a problem with black , even when not completely clean it reflects enough taht they figure it doesnt neen washing. ) It resulted in swirls and some scratches. I washed it with Dawn and applied Scratch Xand followed up with Gold class. It looks better but not perfect. I live in a very cold ( lots of snow, ice and salt) and want to maximize protection before winter completly sets in. What do you recommend? . PS. unfortunely the truck will be outside all of the time.

Couple coats of Pro's Profection.

It is an Amino Functional Polymer, which is the most durable polymer you'll find in a car care product. It is actually a warranty product.

Get a quart of it at Prowax.com

That quart will last you for years. You don't need a lot to wax your truck.

To get the Swirls out, then you'll need to polish it. Meguiar's Dual Action Clear/polish seems to be good for hand use. I know someone who uses it by hand and then follows up with Meguiar's #9.

When polishing use Clean Foam pads and use back and forth motions. Work one panel at a time.

For towels use 100% cotton towels.
