Wet Sanding

Quick, precise... to the point...
Just wasn't familar with that terminology... Thanks. RP :p |
color sanding or wet sanding involves taking a VERY fine sandpaper (2000 or 2500 grit) and wetting it and rubbing the paint to get out runs, orangepeel, or anything other imperfections. Makes for a very good shine and smooth looking and feeling paint job

You guys might be right, but the way I was tought to 'color sand' is as follows;
*Get the body work as smooth as you possibly can...fill, prime, sand, prime, sand, prime til you think you're done and you'd swear its ready for paint. *Shoot a very light coat of a different color primer over the existing primer...like gray over red. *Block sand the gray til you see red peaks and/or gray valleys. This color difference shows you where the high and low spots are. *Address those spots. *Repeat the process til the gray comes off uniformly. That's the way I learned it. |
They are talking about color sanding on trucks that are already painted

MROLDV8, yhea that is the way to colorsand but the term has also started to mean sanding to take out imperfections in the final finish of paint. So sanding the paint to remove orange peel, even in a factory coat, would be called color sanding.

OK...Being used to shooting lacquers, I sand the final color coat anyway. If somebody tried that technique with one of their new clear coated trucks, they'd better be careful not to cut through to the actual color.

Take more than .3 mils away from the clear and you'll cause premature clear coat failure. |
