I use Ford Motorcraft 5/20 Synthetic blend and Motorcraft filter, just what the manual calls for.

For a good discussion on regular oil vs synthetic try this site:

Its all up to your personal choice but i would at least go by the guide lines like a 5w20 oil and Ford filter.

You will get a ton of advice on this topic. Even more so if you post it in the "Engines" thread or "V-6 engines" thread.

It is basically to each their own. If it's a good quality oil and you change on a regular basis you will be fine. Myself I use Valvoline Durablend 5W-30. You can use either 5W-20 or 5W-30 and not have to worry about it. My Ford dealer only uses 5W-30 oil while some other dealers use only 5W-20. personally I don't care for the thinner oil (5W-20) I am not going to chance it in hot weather. Regardless of what people may say Ford basically only used it to get better milage for EPA ratings.
