Question Which wax/cleaners to use on a silver truck?

Okay, got a question for the experts. In the interest of taking the best possible care of my new SCrew, which washing/waxing products do you recommend (Intel)? Keep in mind the truck is silver, so I don't think a high-end mirror-gloss coating will make a huge difference. Up until now I have been using pure carnauba wax and it looked pretty good. What shouldn't I use? Which brands does everyone recommend? BTW, I picked up some 303 aerospace and it makes that window trim look great...would you all recommend using this stuff on the interior as well (dash, door panels, etc)? Thanks.

I have a silver truck myself. I use Zaino's polish's on it. It has 4 coats on it now and it is amazing how good it really looks. I started using it approx. 5 months ago and am very please with the shine it gives it. I had been hoping for a while I would be able to compare it to another silver xlt sport and yesterday I got to. The Ford dealer where I bought it had one on the lot. I parked mine next to it to see what type of difference it really had. It really looked different. The saleman and parts guy that were out there with me were really amazed as well and asked what I used. They had never heard of it. Intel describes it pretty well, I believe he has said it kind of gives it a candy coating look. If thats not correct I am sure he will be along and maybe describe it better as well as other recommendation.

I will say the last coat I put on it was about 2 months ago and it still looks great. Zaino is suppose to give longer protection then other waxes or polishes. From my limited experence I believe that but Intel would be much better for that type of recommendation since he is in the business and I don't really know much about other products and their protection and how long they last. Hoped this helped some.

Too late to write up much. just make sure someone bumps this so I see it tomorrow.

You can use 303 Aerospace on your interior also. I do.

Edit: ohh and just because your car is silver doesn't mean you can't get a great shine on it!

I agree with Intel. Just because its silver you can get a great shine. As I said I like the Zaino. I am sure the other products Intel will recommend will give a great shine too.

blitz

If you prefer to stick with carnuba, you might try Blitz Wax. Lasts longer than anything I've ever used, goes on easy, comes off easy, and leaves a superb shine. My truck's dark highland green, not silver, but I think it would work just as well on silver. Anxious to see Intel's suggestions.
Congrats on the new rig!

Cool I guess I could try...

...Zaino and see how it works. I actually ran across a few silver cars that looked pretty good, so I know my truck can at least be a bit shinier, but silver will never come close to the darker colors in terms of reflectivity (obviously). Nonetheless, thanks for the inputs 01 XLT, Intel, and TXJ.

Re: Which wax/cleaners to use on a silver truck?

Washing, I have used microfiber mits and after having one for about 6months I think I'm ready to go back to a cotton mitt or a sea sponge. Either washing item will work well. I'm thinking I'm gonna give a sea sponge a try. If you do, then make sure you get one meant for use on cars. The ones you find at shell shops and at home depot were not cleaned and prepared for automotive use so they may contain sand and pieces of shells, which will scratch.

For soap I use Pro's Cherry Suds. Relatively mild soap that has a pleasant smell. Meguiar's Gold Class Soap is awesome and you can get a gallon of it for $10 at target. It is a really mild soap.

For wax you can give Liquid Glass a try. It is easy to find (pepboys) and gives a great shine for the amout of work is awesome. Actually, you could even try Klasse Sealant Glaze on silver. I would be really interested in the results because it slightly darkens the paint. Would probably look nice on your truck expecially when you got around 5 coats on your truck and topped it with a carnauba. 5 Coats of Klasse SG will probably last more than 6 months. I had three coats last 6 months on my truck and they were still going.

If you want to stick with carnauba, then you can go with, as someone else suggested, One Grand Blitz. It is a paste wax so you will have to apply it by hand but it really had great durability. It stains trim though.

If you don't care about the durability of your wax, then you can get a product like Pinnale Paste Glaz or P21S. Don't have the durability that Blitz does but they have the best shine.

Intel:

It's interesting you mentioned "Klasse Sealant Glaze on silver", "because it slightly darkens the paint" I thought after using a few coats of Zaino that my truck had a different shade to it "looked richer, and kind of a silver/gray. Anyway when I had it parked next to the other silver sport at the dealership it did look a bit darker, or a shade different. Its also funny because I am sure you had said something about giving it a candy coat look. At the dealership one of the ladys there came out and said something to the effect "that looks good, like something to eat" , yes she was blonde, and I was thinking "get your teeth next to my truck, and I will forget everything my dad said about harming a women"

Thanks again

Intel and 01XLT,
Thanks again for the input. I think I'm going to try either Z or LG and take it from there. I appreciate the help.

-Mike

P.S. If I ever try Klasse I'll let you know if it deepens the silver...
