Chipped paint -n- wax

hiya...

i've been reading much on the polish/wax stuff intel and others have been posting on here, and have a question...

i have a 98 f-150 scab metallic teal & grey with a chippy front-o-the-hood (bought it used and already had the damage). i just got done polishing the hood and have all these white spots from where the wax filled in the pits.

do all those other waxes and polishes you guys use do that? is there a trick to buffing that out quickly? (i can hear, "get an orbital, son!" echoing in the back of my mind...)

Orbital won't keep wax from filling in those holes.

Two things you can do.

One is to hit the spots with a pressure washer. Don't do it on highpressure because you could tear away to paint but at low pressure you can blast the wax out.

The other thing is to hit each chip with a toothpick. Time consuming.

Fill those chips in ASAP!

Go get some touh-up paint that matches the color of your truck. Try pep boys or autozone. You can also go to a paintshop and have the paint mixed for your truck.

if it only chipped the clear coat you can get t/up for the clear coat. just get all the wax out,a real fast start is with a new toothbrush with firm brisstles and with the wax dry, then follow up with a small xacto knife and carefully remove the left over wax from the edgeing. then take a small model paint brush and slowly apply the clear coat(it may take several times) until you fill the hole up. a hair dryer set on the low setting and held back from the surface will speed things up. allow it to set for a couple of days and then apply some scratch x or meguires to smooth down the irregularities of the clear coat at that area and reapply your sealer wax. good luck

thanks much for all the tips... unfortunately, some of the chips had been touched up prior to me buying it (prolly dealer trying to prep it), and did a crappy paint matching.

oh well, but now i know how to take care of new chips in the future... thanks again..
