Need Intel's help w/ scratch removal
 

I posted a message in the SuperCrew forum and it was suggested I give you a try.

I have a bright red 2001 SuperCrew and have a couple surface scratches on the left rear qtr panel. I think these were caused by a Girl Scout leader's belt buckle while loading camping gear into the bed of my truck. Any suggestions for removing them or making them less noticeable?

eww.... I hope you don't have the type of scratch I'm thinking of.

Are they down to primer?
Are they through the clearcoat?
Can you feel them with your fingernail?
Can you post a picture?

Thanks for the reply. The scratches are not down to the primer. I don't think they are through the clearcoat either. I'll check to see if I can feel them with my fingernail and let you know.

Intel... I can't feel the scratches even using the edge of my fingernail. What do you suggest?

I had some sratches very similar to yours on my wifes S-Type. I just bought some Scratch X from walmart, and buffed the hell out of it...no swirl marks and no scratches left. Takes some time but it does get them out.

I'm just worried because you said the scratches might have been caused by belt buckles. Belt buckles tend to cut slantedly meaining it is very hard to judge depth and also to get them out. Hard to describe.

I would get either Meguiar's Scratch X or Eagle One Scratch Remover. I prefer the Eagle One scratch remover because it has less fillers in it. If you use Meguiar's Scratch X run some rubbing alcohol over the scratch after you finish polishing it. It will remove the fillers so you can see if u truly removed the scratch. You will probably have to apply it several times.

If that doesn't get it out, then you'll have to get something like a orbital buffer with a polishing compound such as Meguiar's #9, 3m Swirl remover, or ProWax's Swirl Eliminator.

And finally, if that doesn't get the scratches out then your gonna have to do this https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...threadid=79527 or find a professional to do it for you. People at good paintshops are usually pretty good at colorsanding counting they do it a lot.
