Question The Plastic Ring around Rear Windshield

The plastic ring around the rear windshield on my truck is just like other 97, 98 trucks where it has been faded by the sun. Does anyone know a simple fix or is it not worth worrying about. I thought that there my be some product that could restore the color. I would be thankful for any information.

Forever Black. It'll actually dye it back black and not wash off like the Mothers Back to Black crud.

You could also go get some Vinyl dye and apply that. Will be more difficult because it'll probably come in a spray can instead of a shoe polish type applicator like Forever Black. Vinyl dye will work just as well and will probably be easier to find. I'm sure Pepboys or autozone has black vinyl dye.

Forever Black can be purchased at Autodetail.com, $12.95

Anybody care to give me the step by step on how to take this thing off. I know you have to drop the headliner to access some bolts, how do you drop the headliner?. What else?

a few months ago 98Screamer, I think it was him, posted a thread where he painted his window frame, pics looked real good. Do a search and I'm sure it will pop up.

OK, dumb question - I have a 97 F150 XLT, Pacific Green with grey cloth interior. That ring around the back window on my truck is a medium grey color. Did that actually start out as black? Or was it maybe dark grey, like the plastic around the top of the bed and tailgate? I can't imagine how it could fade from black to the color it is now.....

They were gray light the bed caps but most 97 and 98's fade to light grayish white color. I painted mine black and it looks fantastic...best of all it only cost $4 but was worth way more than that. Eventually I will take some pics and try to build a gallery.

Yeah I remember 98's post, I think he did his on the truck. I just feel if it's not to hard to remove that I could do a much better job painting it off the truck and plus not run the chance on painting something else I didn't want too.

Do most use regular matte or Gloss Kylon or did you use black weatherstrip paint?

I would remove it, sand it smooth, prime it and then paint it with DupliColor auto spray paint. But, it is plastic and does flex.... maybe they have something with a flex modifier?
