black paint car please help!!!

Hi

My dad just bought a brand new 2002 Black F-150 with the 5.4L in it, just picked it up today at the dealership He wants to know some good ways to take care of the black paint on his truck, it looks absolutely flawless right now and he wants to keep it that way for a long time. He hates microscratches in black paint and just wants to know some good ways to keep it lookin sharp!!!!!! thank you for your time!!!!!!!

Preventing microscratching is hard. Get a pressure washer and get microfiber everything. Microfiber wash mit and lots of Microfiber towels. You'll need towels for taking off polish, wax, and polish. You'll also need some for quick detailing. The MF towels from Yosteve.com are excellent.

Give me your email address. I've got something I can send you. Also check out this thread https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...threadid=72622

Black truck... Almost as much work as my deep wedgewood blue. You can see everthing in it. You'll also want to get a Dual action polisher. Basically, you just go buy a 90degree orbital sander and put polishing pads on it. Porter cable has one as well as DeWalt. If you want to spend the time to learn how to use it, then you can also get a rotary buffer.

Intel486,

I would post my e-mail address but then everybody else would be e-mailing me and I don't know yours personally. I have been doing some research on black clearcoat maintenence. I agree that MF towels and everything else MF is good stuff and will not harm todays clearcoat finishes.
Also, there is a website called www.finishfirstusa.com, sounds like good stuff, any opnions?

I'm not familar with their products. I'm using ProWax now. I do know the professional line of Meguiar's is Great!!! 3m is ok but I do feel it is overrated.

Email me at 1337h4xor@***.net

I actually bought a whole bunch of stuff today from my ProWax Dist. I'll post a pic in a min. Hopefully I'll be able to make the money I spent back in a few days. I suggest you look to see if you have one locally. They'd be willing to sell you microfiber products. I believe their towels are $6 each and they are Viper Mircofiber towels. YoSteve.com has towels that are a little more plush than the ones ProWax has. I suggest you go to YoSteve.com and look. His MF towels are great. Don't lint and last a long time. I'm actually going to order some more since I need more towels.

My Black '02 is on order and I have similar concerns. What do you think of the Dual-action polisher on Meguiar's Web site?

The one on Meguiar's is nice, but I think it is way over priced. If I remember right it is over $200 . You can find the porter cable for about $130. It is the same thing, just doesnt have the name Meguiar's.

What sporty said. The one on Meguiar's webpage is a Porter cable that has had the Meguiar's name stuck on it. The porter cable is nice but the DeWalt is better.

YES!!!!!!

Only the best Intel, Dewalt Rulz!!!! LOL I just went to Autozone bought a Synthetic Lambs wool wash mitt, Meguiar's Deep Crystal car wash. I also bought a synthetic drying cloth. I washed my dad's truck today for the first time and The products worked out great, not a mark or microstracth. I only want to use the wool wash mitt on the paint and a 100% cotton towel on the rims, looks fantastic and smells good too Thank you much for the advice and everything else

Just a word of caution regarding synthetic wool wash mits - their nap is no where as soft as either a genuine wool mitt or chenille sponge, and can scratch the paint easier than other two. The synthetic chamois called the Absorber does a great job drying off the truck, as does 100% white Supima cotton towels (Cannon or Fieldcrest). Good luck keeping the truck scratch-free.

Ok for wax I suggest Zaino Zaino and more Zaino.

If you need help with Black let me know. My cobra is a pain in the butt, but it's worth it.

Just my opinion.

You can get Meguiar's #26 Hi-Tech paste or wax at your local auto shop (like AutoZone). It's good stuff and is only ~$10 for a tin (paste) or average-size bottle. Detailing is a time-consuming, trial and error process, as is life. Just enjoy yourself, and take pride in the results of your hard work.

If you're wanting shine, then go with Meguiar's Gold Class. For durability go with #26.

Also, don't go with Zaino on black. Klasse is better!
